My girlfriend and I are going to try a budget road trip from PA up to Adirondacks, Vermont, Quebec, Ontario.

We'll probably stay the longest in the Adirondacks, so I'd like to limit our spending while there for the cities later in the trip.

Where should we ride, and where can we sleep for cheap? I've got a station wagon setup for sleeping in the back...so almost anywhere will work, but I could use some more hints.

Just to let you know, you can camp in any of the marked State Forests without needing permission from the NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation. For free! You would need permission if you were wanting to camp in a Wildlife Management Area or on any other state land not specifically marked State Forest. State Forests however don't have marked sites or anything like that.....just find an open spot in the woods and set up camp.

There are tons of campgrounds in the ADK's. Depending on where exactly where in the ADK you were interested in, there are roadside camp sites all around the lakes. Check out Cranberry Lake. Just pull off the road and camp. It's cheap too. No reservations needed. Check it out online.
