Rides west of Richmond

I need some help here. I am looking for a ride west of Richmond of around 20 miles. I have a friend that will ride with me who is kind of inexperienced, so it can't be a killer. Any suggestions?

Panorama Farms or Walnut Creek. Both are near Charottesville, about an hour west. Panorama is probably a kinder ride. Probably easier to get up to 20 miles as well. Walnut Creek is also very nice. Good warm up loop on the Blue trail (counterclockwise) and a tougher "expert" labeled red trail (counterclockwise). Could probably get 15 miles or so. Check the trail reviews for more info.

Probably not that far west of Richmond, we are going to be driving from Norfolk.

Thank you, Great info, I will look into Walnut Creek and Panorama.
If you want some trails that are more of beginner trails, there are a few that would be great around the Richmond area.

First is Poca. State Park. It is about 25min. SW of Richmond off of Beach Rd and Rt10.
Right now though the trails are strongly suggested to be "off limits" for they have had about 7"+ of rain down there in the last 5 days.

2nd) Poor Farm has some great trails to break people in. That is about 25 min. NW of Richmond off of I95 & Rt54.

3rd) Camp Hilbert is about 20min W of Richmond.
The catch, you can only ride there after 4:30pm and until dusk.
The trails are moderate, but should not scare anyone for mtbiking.

If you need directions, feel free to goto my local mtbike sight and do a search for any of the above.
