Based on the great reviews here on the Titus firum I purchased a Revelation U turn model and decided to skip the Maverick. Took it for the first ride today, for the first 30 minutes it was excellent. After I made a travel adjustment on the trail it started to make this very annoying cluncking noise. Anybody else have this problem? Any thoughts on how to correct this? I do not deal well with noises that should not be there!!!! Thanks in advance.

Wow... bummer. There's nothing more annoying than pulling out the box something that's not working like it should.

Check out if adjusting rebound does something for the clunk to dissapear. There's some forks that like to do so when the rebound is either too slow or too fast for the spring rate.

Sorry for not being helpful.

As a new owner myself, I'm still trying to get to the bottom of all the Revelation's settings, but in researching the fork many have recommended having about 10-15psi greater in the negative chamber than in the positive. In some cases, this may actually pull down on the stanchions when unloaded, with the appearance that you are reducing the travel slightly. Other posters have said that if the positive pressure exceeds the negative, you might get a little bit of extension on the fork when pulling up on the bars. This could result in a "top-out," or the clunk that you're referring to.
I'm no expert here, but it would be worth trying, and better than sending your fork off to be serviced!
Good luck & report back!

Warp has a great eye for this stuff, I'd go with his recomendation first. And of course Budgi here, seems to have his head around this fork a bit, and it actually sounds like that might end up being the problem...

Other wise good luck, and I really hope it'smsomething simple.

Thanks for the help. It sounds like Budgie may be right. I am running close to the same pressure in both (+) and (-) and it does seem to happen when I pull up on the bars. I also need to adjust the rebound some as Warp mentioned. I have not played with rebound much yet since I was still trying to figutre out my settings.

I have seen quite a few Reba/Revelation setup posts here. Maybe do a search. Most of them that I have seen show using 20-30% more in the positive than the negative. If you have more in the negative than positive it's like preloading your top out springs and will sink the fork.

I have a Rev, mostly same pos and neg values equal, haven't played with the rebound, and I feel the fork all right. Probably I was lucky, but if something changes I'll tell what happened..

I have the Revelation and have found that putting 10psi more in the negative leg makes the fork feel very plush like a coil. I have not had any clunking sounds. The fork when completely unloaded sits about 1mm low because the psi in the negative leg is higher than the positive but really, how big a deal is that?

I have tried setting both the same and it feels like an air spring fork. It's ok but it ramps up quickly as it compresses.

Hi RM27,

I think you'll grow to like the Revelation - I think it's a really good fork and I've yet to hear a negative review of it. I'm pretty sure that the clunk it due to an imbalance between + and - pressure. If the - pressure is significantly less than the + pressure, the fork legs extend to full travel (about 132 mm fully wound out) and the fork feels quite stiff to move initially. This limits small-bump response, but lessens the tendency for the fork to bob. This also causes quite a harsh top-out (clunk?). Having + pressure greater than - causes the stanchions to suck a few mm into the sliders, but gives a more pliant fork which responds well to small bumps. No top-out problems also.

I think RS quality control is pretty rigourous these days, so it's pretty unlikely that you have a case of "bad-luck".

I'm looking forward to getting back on my ML on Sunday after two weeks enforced absence with an arm wound. Hopefully post some pics if the weather allows - it has been shite here in Scotland for weeks now. I really should move somewhere sunny, like maybe...Portugal, say?

;)

PS - working from memory here, so I may have mixed up + and -

Thanks for the response. I tried all different settings with the Pos and Neg chambers, clunk was still there. It would be silent at first after adjusting air pressure until I adjusted the travel and then the sound would return. The lower I brought the fork down closer to 100mm the louder and more apparent the clunk became. I called Sram and they told me it had to be shipped back to be repaired or have the shop I purchased it from take it apart. The woman I spoke with said that sound I am hearing is not normal and something is effecting the internals. I hope they fix it quick because I am having bad flash backs of the poor quality of RS of years ago. I hope I am wrong but that was the original reason I tried Fox 4 years ago. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope for the best. No matter how you look at it I am without a fork for at least 7 days.

Bummer - looks like that one slipped through QC - hope you get a replacement which does what it says on the tin.

I have been riding my REV since April. I have found my sweet spot at the 120mm mark with 5" travel in the rear with 7.5 to 10 psi less air in the negative chamber than positive. That gives me the best small bump response, then I use the compression knob to tune out the brake dive. I have the rebound about 2 turns from full fast. There is some really good info here on the forum about tuning the REV or the Reba -- the information should be pretty interchangable.

Riding weight 158lbs -- travel 120mm sag 20% (set sag with fork fulled extend to 130mm and then recheck the sag at your travel choice) Positive pressure sets the sag. Negative is the bump compliance. My positive pressure is 60 psi and negative is 50 to 52.5psi. With my settings I pretty much get the full travel out of the shock for the trails I ride.

Try to do a search with my user name eman2 in the shock forum -- I posted a thread about tuning the rev and I got some really good feedback that helped me.

Small changes are best -- I created an excel spreadsheet for myself to help track the changes until I found what I like best. The amount of adjustment can seem over whelming.

Did you ever get this resolved with Rockshox? Please let me know since I'll be sending mine in soon for the same exact problem.

I sent the fork back last Friday. As of today I still have not received the fork back. I will post a follow up once I get it back. I can tell you I am not pleased with a brand new fork not working.

Speaking of forks, seems like you would have written something up on your AM1 experiances. Did you ever get it? It didn't work out? It's great? It sucks? Anything???

Wow.. sorry... I forgot to post it on a separate thread... But you can find some on the subject:

http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=207363
And here, see post 5...http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?p=1997073#post1997073

I haven't been able to ride some more, but all I can say is the Phaon got sold and I'm keeping the AM1.

That fork is as good as they get. Stroke is muttery smooth, but you pay the price on pedaling input. Dialing it to the AM- setting helps, though. But I prefer the open DS setting for mainly everything.

The Phaon was not as plush and it dived a bit more... but surprisingly, the thing was a better pedaler, while sitll being plush.

The AM1 is not like light years ahead of the Phaon, but it would be dumb to keep the Phaon, the AM1 simply rocks.

Everything is useful and sensible. It will take some to get it dialed, but so far so good.
The only downside to it is the darn TST cartrdige bleeding procedure, which is a nightmare. I hope not having to do it for quite some time.

Also, needing special tools or having to modify one, kinda sucks. But it's not a big deal.

So far, I'm happy!!
Thanks, again to Whafe! BIG BIG PROPS to him!

I have been reading alot on the Revelation . . . I thinking about getting one. It seems everyone really likes the fork. I have a TALAS now, but I am getting the itch to try the Rev. I have the Reba on my Racer X 100 and I have been really impressed. Should I "pull the trigger and get one".

I'm running an 05 TALAS myself, and haven't even considered the Rev. I mean I've got a TALAS...why? I haven't really read anything hard on the Rev being better, and even if it is, by how much? I don't know if your not happy with the TALAS then... I guess.

It's kinda weak that anything but the TALAS or Rev either dosen't have on the fly TA or a questionable AC for the ML.... Or requier's a threw axel hub.

Update and question.

To say I am disappointed with rockshox is the under statement of the year. After 2 weeks I get my fork back, so much for one day turn around which they quoted me. The work order in the box states fork was working fine but was rebuilt anyway. I install the fork, take another hour to set up the Hope brakes again, exact same cluncking noise, nothing was fixed at all. Long story short I call my LBS they call Sram. Sram agrees to send out a new fork. 3 days later new fork arrives. I install it today, start to set it up and notice there is no lock lever on the compresion dial, just a blue knob that is spring loaded, with no way to adjust compresion. What's up with this? Did they forget the lever or am I doing something wrong? I know my previous fork had a lever. Too late to call Sram tonight - probably a good thing since my blood presure is through the roof right now.:nono: :madman:
