Hi,
I've got a junior bike Raleigh MTN Scout 2006. I am 4.9 ft only, so I am quite happy about the size and the front suspension, which was the only one that really worked on those junior bikes. I can handle even the weight (for a while), but what really drives me crazy is the crankset SR Suntour XCC100 28/38/48t. I never knew about the existence of this kind, didn't bother to check. I want to replace it the first place. The problem is I never did it, so I am not sure it will be compatible with the BB (Sealed Mech Loose Ball 68mm). I would love to replace BB too, but I don't understand how to measure this Loose Ball type of BB's, so I don't know if it will be compatible w/the frame. Plus the crank arm length is 165.. I am completely confused:confused:

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Lana

What's driving you crazy about the crank? you want some lower gears, no?
anyway, the BB spindle length is dependent upon the crank that you get (assuming you are replacing the crank).
You do need to know the BB shell width, which is either 68mm or 73mm wide.
so, a new BB would be something like 73 x 113.

You may be able to use the existing BB with a new crank, but to measure the spindle length, the crank arms need to be removed.
Check out the parktool.com's repair section & sheldonbrown.com site for good information.
Also, you should probably stay with the 165mm crank arm length ...
hope that helps!

THANK YOU, it IS very helpful. Yep, wanting lower gear and looking for suitable crankset+BB. Meanwhile I replaced the cassette. For certain reasons I quit cycling 4 y.a., now getting back on trails. I had a XS-sized very light (12 kg) bike which was built for me:), w/excellent drivetrain, so I never really bothered about anything. This time I decided to try a junior bike, and I am just amazed w/the components they use for them.. it is like - if it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger! :) Well, anyway I feel more secure on this heavy but SMALL horsey and can try easier some rocky steep downhill. I can jump down w/out hurting myself WOOHOO:) I will upgrade everything though. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP again.
