Replacement bolts for bb7's, what kind?

Just got my inbred from the U.K. The bag that had my bb7's (they were an add on) had been ripped and there were only three bolts left. I picked up some steel metric bolts that matched as close as possible to the originals I had but I was wondering if there is a certain type bolt required.
Is there anything special about the avid bolts?
Do the bolts need to be heat treated?
What have you folks used in the past that has held up to the test?

I have used mild steel w/ any problems. I prefer stainless steel for strength & corossion resistance.
