Can anyone provide the Cane Creek part numbers for replacement bearings for the stock Cane Creek 40 ZS44/28.6 EC44/30 headset that Surly puts on these bikes? I can't make heads or tails of the parts listed on Cane Creek's website. I've emailed them and never received a response. Thanks!

Found this in the FAQ on Cane Creek's website:

I want to replace the bearing in my Cane Creek headset. What size do I need?
EC30 will take a 38mm bearing
EC34 will take a 41mm bearing
ZS44 will take a 41mm bearing
ZS49 will take a 41mm bearing
EC44/40 will take a 52mm bearing
EC44/33 will take a 47mm bearing
EC49 will take a 52mm bearing
ZS56 will take a 52mm bearing
ZS62 will take a 52mm bearing
IS41 will take a 41mm bearing
IS42 will take a 42mm bearing
IS52 will take a 52mm bearing
All complete Cane Creek headset assemblies (top or bottom) will use a 36×45 degree contact angle bearing, with the exception of our IS47/33 and EC44/33 headset assemblies. IS47/33 and EC44/33 will use a 45×45 degree contact angle bearing.

So, it seems I need a 41mm and a 52mm bearing. Additionally, Surlys use a 52/30 "conversion" crown race, which adapts the 52mm bearing in the lower headset to a 30mm crown.

Do you have the original bearings? The size might be printed on the outside of the race or molded into the seal.

I do. I recall looking for some identifying marks, but not seeing any. I ordered the sizes in my previous post. I'll report back if they don't fit.

The 41mm and a 52mm bearings arrived, and popped right into the 10 series (I thought it was a 40, but no matter) headset on my 2017 red Krampus. The headset is now buttery smooth with no play and binding. The bike handles better, tracks smoother through corners, and is easier to ride no-handed. Examining the old bearings, the top seems like it's still OK, but the bottom one is trash.
