I bought a pair of Giro VR70s last Feb, and I rode them for about 3 months, took May-Oct months off (zero pedaling) due to real life sucking a lot; and have been back using them since then. So they literally have like 9-months, and maybe 500-600 miles of riding on them. This happened last ride:

I don't have the piece that tore off. I'm not sure where I lost it.

Other than being disappointed with the sole durability, I love the shoes and the rest is in good shape. I don't want to scrap 'good' shoes, but I can't leave it. Walking on rocks on a bare cleat is dangerous.

Anyone have any luck hacking any kind of repair to their shoes ?

Is that a Vibram sole label under your thumb?

If so, check with them. They may have changed their policy, but Vibram (used to) have lifetime warranties, even for normal wear. I've had Vibram soles replaced on hiking boots when they wore out. I would check with them to see what, if anything, they can do for you.
