Rent and Ride near San Diego

I'm going to be in San Diego Thursday night and Friday. I'd like to know of a good place to rent a descent bike. Also, where should I go to get a good example of california mountain biking. I'm looking for something about 10-15 miles.

If anyone is interested in meeting up early Friday morning let me know. I plan on leaving my hotel around 6am, I'm willing to travel an hour or so if I can find some good riding.

Thanks,

Mike

Well, go here on the 'net and ask Eigil if he's up and running yet. If not, there's another shop in Pine Valley he can refer you to, and it rents FS bikes, so you can go ride the BLT and Noble Canyon...if you find someone to go with --don't do this ride alone if it's your first time.
Where in San Diego?

If you are in North San Diego County, Bike 101 (760-793-5431, www.bike-101.com) rents Specialized Epic Comp's.
Thanks

Thanks for the info!

noble canyon

I think I might be adventurous and go ride the Noble Canyon trail.

Anyone have a good idea of how long this ride will take (including uphill road) for an intermediate advanced rider. I'll probably take it easy.

I'm planning on riding very early Friday morning so that I can get back to my hotel by noon for a shower before checkout.

Thanks,

Mike
It'll take about 45 minutes to drive out there (if you're in San Diego proper) - it takes nearly 2 hours for me to get from top to bottom when shuttling with a big group (but we stop and goof off often). I couldn't tell ya how long it would take to ride from bottom to top on the road that runs up ... perhaps 2 hours, maybe longer?

I can't remember how long it takes to climb, but it's about 8 miles to the top if you take the forestry road. It's VERY steep in sections and there are long sustained climbs. Expect to really work on the way up. The ride down is around 11 miles depending on how you end the ride. It starts with 2 smallish climbs follwed by a 3rd a couple miles in. If you do the climb at the end it's about 2 miles and is not too hard, but wears you down. The descent from there is pretty short but a blast.
