Fat Tire Bikes will be rolling around Willow
If you haven't tried it here is your chance
Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers are teaming up with Arctic Cycles and the Willow Winter Carnival to bring some rental fat tire bikes out to the carnival for an afternoon of winter biking.
If you have ever wondered what it is like to roll across the snowy landscape on fat tires here is a great opportunity. Billy from Arctic Cycles will fit you to one of his lightweight rental bikes at a cost of $35 for the afternoon (most of the bikes include poagies to help keep your hands warm). VMBaH member and Willow resident Travis Hallifax will lead the ride. Bikers with their own fat tire bikes are welcome to join the ride and discover the great trails available to ride around Willow.
Those wanting to rent a bike must call Arctic Cycles prior to the February 4th to reserve a bike.
Fat tire bike rental ~ Contact Billy at [email protected] or (907) 351-8545 to reserve a bike. We encourage you to call as soon as possible. There are limited number of bikes and sizing is critical.
Where and when ~ Meet Billy of Arctic Cycles at the Willow Community Center, located on the west side of the Parks Highway MP 69.8 at 11:00 am to pick up your reserved rental bike. The ride will be led by Travis and will start at 12 Noon. Plan on a 2.5-3 hour ride.
Willow Winter Trails ~ A series of trail loops that are groomed by the Willow Trails Committee. The trails cross a variety of terrain as they wind their way around the lakes and through the beautiful forests west of Willow.
Directions to Trailhead/Parking ~ Willow Community Center is a located west of the Parks Highway at Milepost 69.8. Parking may be limited due to the carnival activities but there should be plenty of parking at nearby facilities. You will be directed to other parking facilities if the community center lot is full.
What to bring or wear ~ Dress in layers. You tend to stay warm from the activity but feet tend to get cold, so warm boots are essential. Boots that are warm, lightweight and not too tight are recommended. Not all the bikes will have poagies, so to ensure your hands are warm bring warm gloves. Baclavas or neck gaiters are also suggested. Bring water, snacks and an extra layer. Bring a small day pack to carry your gear because the rental bikes do not have racks or bags. Toe and hand warmers are also a good idea.
Contacts ~ Pat at [email protected] for more information about the ride; Billy at [email protected] about the bikes; and contact Madeline at [email protected] about the winter carnival. Willow website: www.waco-ak.org
