Can anyone please explain why the rear triangle has to have this design? It looks very strange and I do not understand why they have designed it like this? Obviously there is a reason?

I imagine for chainline and and chain clearance.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the asymmetric stays help to reduce rear flex. Not sure that I believe it but I do recall reading it somewhere.

Lots of full suspension bikes have the design. Increases rigidity and clearance.

Yeah, chain clearance. The chainstay has a limited number of positions it can be in. The non-drive side doesn't.
