Sorry, my Spanish is bad, what little I have, so I'll stick with english(I'm working on it tho). My wife and I are going to relocate to Mexico from Texas in the next 3-4 years, she's a citizen. We are starting to visit and research cities. Any recommendations for cities that have good riding/trails? We prefer high desert to costal/beach. Not that trails would be the deciding factor but it wouldn't hurt. She is from Monterrey but doesn't want to move back there. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I’m curious about this too. I’ve heard there limited trails near Puerto Vallarta, Oaxaca and Cabo San Lucas (Todos Santos). I’ve not ridden any of these areas so can’t comment on them.

You should definitely consider Guadalajara. Nice weather, nice food, Tequila, all the advantages of a big city (but not so big) and near many interesting cities/places. Lots of MTB trails just around the corner in Bosque La Primavera from novice to expert, from 1-2 hours to a whole day ride. Most of the time I go riding there I start at home, it only takes me 30-35 min. And there's also plenty of trails in a radius of about an hour (or less) driving. You can drive 1.5 - 2.5 hrs to places like Tapalpa, Mazamitla or Mascota and spend a weekend of great mtb trails there. You can even try mtb from Mascota to Puerto Vallarta, a 100K really hard but fantastic ride, and then spend a weekend on the beach. And there's a big and great community of mtbikers (and roadies too, actually many of us do both).

I'd move to Oaxaca in a heartbeat if I could. Just got back from my second trip down there. Rode seven days of everything from rowdy, steep natural lines to flowy, purpose-built singletrack. There's at least 4 major ride areas right outside the city. Here's a PB piece from the tour company I used:

Definitely another great option, great trails and food is second to none. Did I mention Mezcal?
