I'll try to make a long story short..... I will be buying a complete 5 Spot soon but want to find a reliable store where I don't get screwed. Couple of of reasons why I have some "special needs"

- I'm currently over in Europe and will either bring the bike back myself from NYC or have someone else do it. Forget about customs, that will not be an issue. And forget about buying the bike in Sweden, it will cost twice as much.

- After ordering I will not have a chance to look everything over until I pick the box up and put it on the plane (or in the container). Therefore it's crucial that everything on the bike is as ordered and no screwups have been made.

- Possibility to customize/substitute different components

- I prefer to buy a used 5 Spot but realize that this will be near impossible but a store with a good deal is of course a big plus.

So far I have looked at Richards bicycles and Beyond Bikes but some feedback from all of you real owners would be much appreciated.

Regards

I got mine from wrench science when I was overseas. I was pretty impressed with the whole experience. They took the time to make sure my personal needs were met. The web site is pretty cool you can totally spec out your bike to your liking and it will sum up the weight and price. Make sure you know what you want before you order, I found that they did not really have much in the way of advice of which components I should get. The bike was assembled very well and they got my order right. They even made sure to install the correct springs for my fork and shock. I was given all the parts documentation. Avi the sales guy was cool.

Can't go wrong with Larry Mettler at Mountain High Cyclery. He took good care of me and many others who post here and on the Ventana forum. He has a small web presence (www.mtnhighcyclery.com) with e-mail, but it is best to contact him by phone (970-669-7960). Good luck.
I'll second that. He will provide you with excellent service though you cannot order thru the website.

I got my 5-Spot at Beyond Bikes and had a very good experience with them. Granted, my situation was different, as their shop is only a few miles from my house. I was able to speak to them in person and my final build was immaculate. They treated me well and got me a smoking deal. I can't tell you if it would be any different buying over the internet but I have met those guys and spoken to them on many occasions and they seem very cool and dedicated to building quality bikes. That said, I'm sure there are dozens of other shops out there with the same dedication.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions

I appreciate all the feedback. I don't need to buy the bike in NYC but that's where I will be picking it up. But it would be a shame to have it shipped there and then see some stuff missing or perhaps the wrong specs......

The prices over here for bikes are just stupid. Especially the high end stuff. Part of it is the taxes but to buy the bike in US with our very strong Swedish Crown is a huge difference. I could buy the bike in US and pay for five round trip tickets to my old hometown NYC and it will still be cheaper than picking it up here. Since I go to NYC a lot anyway it just makes sense to pick one up while I'm there.

Look forward to join the Turner community...
