Hi,

I was all set to buy a Reign 1 18", but, no one has them in stock - and cannot get one until September/October!!!

So, either i go for a Trance 1, which i can get straight away with £300 off...or i go for something else, as i am not waiting until October...

Any recommendations for alternative bikes, similar price bracket etc...

Thanks,

oh...

We, the PROs, have a saying...

There's no bike like the Reign... sorry dude.

Joke aside... in this price range - you'll be hard pressed to find anything. Take a look at the Cannondale Prophets... (geez it hurts even to type this).

A good option would be some Rockies. The ETSX is a fine bike. If you want more travel - take a look at the Slayers.

But then again... there's no bike like the Reign...
I'd go with the Trance. Seriously, I love the Maestro suspension.

My 0.02cents.

It depends on the kind of riding you will be doing to decide whether a Trance is a good alternative. If your mainly going to be trail riding, the Trance will do fine. But if you are wanting to some Freeride or Downhill, the Trance won't perform to the level of the Reign.
You could look at Iron Horse MKIII or Seven Point series., Santa Cruz Nomad,, or Specialized Enduro line--all of these should fill the bill. Pricewise, Jamis offers the Dakar XLT--a little more XC oriented, but still has 5 inches of travel.

Exatamundo :D You'll be missing the slightly higer end components, but the specs on the R2 are great and so very rideable. If after you've had it for a bit and don't feel they're up to your scratch then you could upgrade them.

I know the components are a little off, but your getting the fundamental geometry and you can always upgrade. I'm not ashamed to ride mine.

Another vote for an upgraded Reign 2.

I have an R2 upgraded with:

Pikes
NSB front 20mm hub
RF deus XC stem
Syncros gain OS bars
Deus XC cranks
SDG I-beam seat & post
XTR Cassette
Exustar pedals
Conti vert pro's

all for less $$ than an R1 and I don't have to worry about the much discussed frailty of the (admitedly bling) Crossmax wheels...

You should never be ashamed to ride.. no matter what!

The Trance and the Reign are different bikes. If you are looking for a Reign because that suits your riding better, I would stick with the Reign over the Trance. Go for a Reign 2. You will have an equally capable bike to the Reign 1 and you can always upgrade when you destroy parts.
