So I picked up an '01 FSR / Stumpjumper XC frame on ebay (can someone set me straight on the naming conventions of these things??). got it for a steal, btw.

The frame's in pretty good shape, obviously with it's age a few things are going to need updating. Top prioritiy is the suspension bushings - they're shot. I can't post pics right now as the frame's at the LBS, they're currently trying to track down the parts (I'm on the 2nd shop that sells specialized :madman: ) I'll try to get some pics when I get it back, until then is there somewhere I should try? I emailed specialized, got no reply so far... Don't feel like waiting for 2 hours on hold so I haven't called yet.

I believe there used to bearing kits available to upgrade the bushings to sealed needle bearings. On my '04 model I found that the bearings are actually standard sizes so rather than pay lots of $$$ to my LBS I sourced some replacements from a local bearing specialist for a fraction of the price.

right on, I was hoping there was a possibility it wasn't completely proprietary... I'll have to take it apart and figure out what I can use...

Check out the Spec website for the 2002 models. other than colors and a few odds-n-ends...they're pretty much the same...

2002 SJ FSR-XC

My 2001 Comp was blue and white and was one of the best looking bikes I'd ever owned. I had to get a warranty replacement frame which ended up being a Pro. it was black and silver.

Perfect! I did not know that they were the same, that helps alot - the '01s have fallen out of the catalogue, it seems, so to speak.

I'm actually building this frame up for my girlfriend, as I already have a FS AM rig, so the frame is currently naked. I'm probably going to get it powder coated a candy purple color (her fav. color) and do some red anodized parts. Shouldn't be TOO embarrassing when I steal it for a quick ride...

Great Bike

I have a 99 Stumpjumper FSR-XC (correct naming prior to Specialized splitting the line into 2) since new and it is great. I have upgraded it with the MRP link and bearing set and it make a world of difference. I have acutally demoed a few new ones (XC and SJ) but couldn't justify the price as the difference wasn't much. Good luck with your build up.
