Will this cog screw onto the stock hub of the redline Monocog 29er? The monocog has the standard shimano splined hub only it won't fit a cassette. If not, Is there a screw on cog that will screw onto my hub?

No a threaded...

track cog or a screw on freewheel type cog will not work with a spined hub. There are no threads on the freehub body to accomodate this. A splined hub requires a splined cog and spacers. As illustrated below.

Actually...

the Monocog has a Shimano compatible hub that is threaded (on the outside). There is a big lockring that holds the Shimano cog in place.

BNC, I have a Surly track cog. I will see if the threads fit the hub and post tomorrow.

Thanks KTM. The monocog is my first bike so I didn't know that most shimano hubs aren't threaded. I just assumed that all shimano compatible hubs were.

Yes, the track cog will screw onto the Redline freehub.

I've been looking to go dinglespeed myself, and it looks like a Shimano cog, spacer, track cog would be a slam dunk.

well the Dinglespeed is easy. I currently have it set up as a dinglespeed. I have a cog, spacer, spacer cog and lockring on there right now (2 spacers because I didn't get a 9 speed chain for it yet). It works great. I can get you a picture of that if you want it.

I'm doing the track cog thing to try and squeeze a 3rd cog to make it into a 3 speed. I've read the Monocog with gears discussions so many times but I've only seen one guy do it and that was with 3 chainrings in the front. Well I'm doing it dammit but I'm taking baby steps. Track cog probably not the best idea.
I don't think that hub is set-up for a lockring so you'd have to braze the cog to the hub to prevent it from unthreading.

Also...fixed gear off roading is not for the faint of heart or faint of legs.

BNC, post pictures when you get the three speed rocking.

Since the track cog is beefed up at the the threads (at least the Surly is) you may be able to go shimano cog, track cog, track cog. No spacers.

shayne I'm not riding fixed. KTM two surly cogs sounds cool but I am going to use a shifter and I don't think the spaces would be indexed correctly. I don't think the shimano track hubs are wide at the bottom like that.
