Recommend my day trip...

Hey, a couple of us are looking to take a day trip Sunday away from the valley for some riding. With only the one day out and the drive to and from the destination considered, what would you recommend as a must do ride. Lots of climbing is fine assuming its worth the trip down. Technical is no problem but am really looking for some fun, flowing singltrack down some hill or mountain with nice scenery, I.E. trees haha. :D

In the past summer we've done the ride starting just past Christopher Creek, up to Military Sink Hole and the rim road area and back down some other trail and we've done Spruce Mtn. in Prescott.

<My buddy has Pauls book so we have reference for directions and trail details

Thanks- JB

Looks good...

Especially since I just found out a newbie is comming along. Looks like the trails are varied enough to keep us all entertianed. Just looking forward to anything but Hawes, National, etc, etc...I'M IN A RUT I THINK! ;)

Thanks
Haven't you heard?

New Forum policy, don't ask, don't tell. Like I tell my kids, go read a book! :D
xpost from other thread, but it fits better here

Hey peeps... I am from Maine and will be visiting a buddy of mine that week in the Tempe area. Something like this sounds ideal... can you give me more info on this spring fling thing or redirect me to other resources on this... I would really like to Ride some DH out there or some of the most technical trails that I can get my knobbies on.. What do you all reccommend?

Tried this, could narrow it down with the posts I could find.

" It would be nice to see a post that indicated that even a tiny bit of research had been done. You know, something like "I've been reading posts about XYZ trial, and plan to ride it when I'm in town next month. Any other rides similar to this one that I should know about? Anybody feel like showing us around? We'll buy a post ride beer."

I'd certainly be up for post beers !
Thanks for the lame advice, thats not quite what I was hoping for, but, oh well.

We've got Pauls book and have used it on 4 occasions now, but in case you haven't noticed it gives only one opinion on rides, his. I was hoping a forum full of experienced riders would take 5 minutes off the bash-wagon that is the AZ forum and just give some straight up day trip advice, my bad :(

-props to YuriB for giving an opinion on trail riding without getting any panties in a wad, much appreciated. :D

Bash away, lemmings...
Agree!

If you folks have time to 'waste' flaming others, why don't you put those efforts to GOOD use and post constructively or better yet.... don't post at all!
Eatdrinkride, don't know if you've gone up to Sedona recently, but the secret trails, templeton, airport mtn. can all be linked up for a 20+ miler that's a good ride. It'll be a little chilly up there but certainly not freezing cold. Our crew has driven up there, put in a good 20+ miles and got back home in time for dinner. Just a thought ...

Sedona is cool...and was an option but at this point we are looking for something completely new to us.

We are going with YuriB's recommendation of the Catilina State Park area. Mostly b/c we have never been! Thats the fun....

Thanks for the reply. You give new hope to the otherwise "Debbie Downer" forum, Haha and mostly j/k. ;)
Sedona

Park at the healthfood store by Soldier Pass and the main drag then loop Munds wagon trail, Huckaby under the bridge along the wilderness fringe all the way to teapot/cup (I forget which it's called) 20 miles or so without much road other than the section DH from Soldier pass to Munds with tons of fun stuff and some iffy rout finding, one of my all time favorites. If thats not enough for you(massochist :D ) you could head around the corner to Oak creek and ride the main fireroad from Bike and Bean over to Submarine rock then over chicken point then back to the original fireroad you started on by way of the Cathedral singletrack (again not sure of the name but the Bike and bean guys know it) Too much good stuff.
