I've searched through as many threads as I could find and only came up with 2 racks that I know work. There was a few others, but they were unclear and had no pictures. I know there is the Surly Nice rack and the OMM racks, But I'm looking for a more economical option for a rear rack. I'd like something in the $50 or less range, hold decent weight, allow use of small panniers, and be lower to the tire. I found a bunch from a company named Axium that claim they hold up to 150lbs, but I'm not sure which ones would work.

Thanks in advanced and I appreciate any thoughts on the subject.

Well, I'm not exactly stuck on the $50 range, but I don't plan on using it a lot. I have a couple trips I'm planning once the Pugs is built and the rack and some pannier bags would be nice to have. I just don't see the need to spend over $50-$80 on something that I'm not gonna use a great deal. Is there a big difference in the way a rack mounts up to the Pug then other bikes? I know usually they are attached at the dropouts, but on the Pug they are further up.

It's not cheap, but I do love my OMM Sherpa rack. I like how it mounts to the rear canti posts on the pugs frame. Very sturdy and fairly light.

Topeak Explorer rack works fine on a Pugs and 9zero7 running 100 mm rims, you won't even need the disk brake version of the rack.

Sorry not the best pics of the rack, the same rack was mounted on both bikes. Install is straight bolt-up nothing custom with one exception, because both bike have offset rear ends the first bolt up the bottom of the rack to the frame and bend the whole thing over about an inch so that it's centered over the wheel and then bolt up the top.

jkaber- I do like how the OMM racks mount, but the Sherpa looks too small to me. I'm gonna be around your area from this Thursday to next Tuesday...going to see some friends in Denver.

dosbugs- Do you have any pics of the Topeak mounted on a Pug?

I'm looking for pictures mounted up also. Seems like not many companies have pictures of the racks installed.

I already own a Tubus Logo Expedition Rack for my Brodie Hardtail and love the set-back bars which also lower weight distribution and give more leg clearance. I'll be building a fatbike this spring and haven't yet settled on a rear rack option until NOW! After pulling up a technical drawing of the Locc from Tobus and discovering rack width spacing of 120mm which gives ample room for stuffing fatties between I'm sold again with Tobus and German ingenuity. I'm guessing from the picture velpax posted that's the 28" 700c model rack with probably 3+ inches of headspace above the tire to rack. My personal riding requirements for an MTB/touring are panniers and or grocery panniers loaded to max. weight for camping trips and in-town runs to the local markets. I don't ever see any winter camping in my future or loading my bike down with weight when I'm wanting not to break through a snow pack. So the weight weenie factor can be thrown out the window here for a stout well built rack, and in reality how much weight are we realy fussing about? A couple grams or a whole fricken once! It's a 26" Locc and you need also the foot extension part (Art.-No: 70024) to clear
the brake caliper, maybe with 160mm rotors it will fit but I have 203mm rotors and
I removed the mounting plate for the lock bracket with a dremel
