Rear FS mudguard from inner tube?

I have seen DIY mudguards for FS bikes from old inner tubes. Would like to know the most effective way to build this, as I have given up on rigid options that fail when the dropper post is down. I seem to recall that a section of inner tube was connected to chain stays & saddle. It would flex with suspension, and HOPEFULLY not get snagged against the rear tire when the dropper is down & the suspension compresses.

I have a large frame with about 140mm rear travel, & the good ol' mucky nuts mud flap attached to the saddle kept getting mashed against the rear tire.

Shove a Marsh Guard in?
Not a great picture but depends if you are trying to keep crap away from a shock/linkage or yourself.
