Hello All,

I have a Sugar 3+ and I have a somewhat significant amount of 'wiggle' in the rear suspension pivit points. Wiggle means side to side motion of the rear tire which can be felt while riding. I've taken things apart to have a look at how the rear part of the frame is mounted to the front frame and the shock. There isn't anything to adjust or replace. It seems as though all you can do is tighten the bolts.

I've tightened them as much as I can (I will probably head out to Canadian Tire and buy the longest 5mm allen key available) but that doesn't seem to eliminate the wiggle.

Any suggestions?

I have the same bike, a 2003 Sugar 3+. My suspension pivots need an overhaul. I have everything except one bushing. Mine is not so far gone that it wiggles. It does creak a lot when I am riding and once in a while I can feel it flexing significantly, but not enough to make me stop riding it.

Since I don't have much exposure to rebuilding suspension bikes I would guess that you need to replace your bushings. You will have to go to a bike shop that sells/services Fishers and ask them to order every pivot bushing and perhaps new bolts and nuts as well.

P.S. Try not to over torque your suspension bolts. That is not going to fix the problem if the bushings are worn out. It will just overstress your pivots and perhaps cause a failure somewhere.

I had a similar issue with my 2003 GF Sugar 2+ Replacing all of the pivots/bushings eliminated the problem. 3 years old - so probably wearing out.

As NB and Ivan have suggested, you might need to replace worn out bushings.

Before you do that..... Are you sure it's the frame?

Does the rear wiggle when you grab the rear swing arm and wiggle it.... or do you have to grab the wheel to get it to wiggle? If it's the frame.... replace the bushings. If it's the wheel.... you probably need your hub adjusted.

Yep, it was the bushings. When I first posted I wasn't aware of the replaceable bushings. Thanks to all.

overtightening a worn bushing can cause a dead spot in that bushing and will only amplify the problem. Hopefully you've replaced the bushing and all is well.....ride on!

I had major squeaking issues prior to disassembling my Sugar 4+ and coating the outside of the bushings with a small amount of Permatex Anti-seize compound (normally used on cars). It's been a couple of years since doing this and I haven't felt or heard any issues.
