today i tried to install a new cable on my rear derialleur. i hooked the cable up through the shifter, down through the housing and to the derialleur. i hooked it up and was able to get up through all 9 gears. when i got to the last gear the derailleur wouldnt come back even once i pushed the shifter. i did not move at all, i dont know why this happened. can anyone give me a clue on how to fix this or just start fresh and tell me how you notmally install a new cable on a derailleur and get your shifting perfect.
it is a shimano xt 9spd derailleur if that helps.

you indexed from gear 9 right? chain in highest gear position. shifter in highest postion.. set the high limit screw and tighten cable down.
