my rear derrail is just not working right...so i went to the part tools site and went through the thing word for word...then i take it out and it shifts even worse...i mean i can't even load the thing because it pop into another gear real hard...so i had to put it into the outer most cog and stand and crank home....

my bike is a monocoque full suspension...is the trick that you have to have someone sit on the bike while the bike is held in the stand and then do the adjustments...but seriously is that
is maybe, the bike shifts fine on the stand...but when you ride it it won't shift well

i need help!

Sounds like...

... you need to re-route your rear derailleur cable. You can also try using something like those Nokon alu beaded cables around the area that flexes under suspension movelent. Aparently Nokon cables don't grow or shrink when flexed. Try routing your deraulleur cable near the pivot point so it flexes the least with suspension movement.

It could also be that your derailleur hangar is bent or your derailleur pivot points are sloppy.

did not think of that...i'll try to check this out as a possible cause

another thing to look at...

i had a really bad burr on a link in my chain.

when the bike was on the stand it would make a click noise every time that link went through the RD, but it was only just noticable.

when riding the bike it would ghost shift like crazy and drive me nuts, i was thinking i had bent my RD hanger.

took the chain off to clean and lube it after exhausting everything else and found the stuck link. took that link apart and hit the mating surfaces with a file.

no more problems.

this is a brand new chain! i think i'll bring the bike into the lbs...i hate going there but in this case it might be money well spent....i use my bike to get around as well as play, so i try do to everything myself

New chains can have stiff links.

A new chain can also skip/jump on a worn cassette. It may work fine in the stand and jump under pressure.

Ask the LBS to show you want they find.
