Newbie to Mountain Bikes but not Biking!

Wife and I got MTN Bikes to get back in shape.
Got Her a Diamondback Sorento last Fall and me a boat anchor....I'm mean a Mongoose BlackComb full suspension.
Well I can tell ya at 44yrs old that Goose was just toooooo dang heavy (43lbs) to get up the hills here! :madman:
Goose was a nice looking bike but like peddling motorcycle frame with no motor!! :D

This past week I scored a 2006 Voodoo Hoodoo Hard tail completely dumped in a box cept the crank.
I did some upgrades to my Goose so I'm combining the best parts from both bikes.
Disc brakes from the Goose was a must! Looks like I'm gonna get it in at 30lbs.

I should have it done this coming week!
(I'll have pics of it then)

All the details are in my profile.

BTW:
Got my real start in Biking when I was 17 with a Windsor Super Carrea Racing bike.
Dad and I used to restore and build Bikes back then.....got it in a trade deal.
Was a $400 bike back then!
I'd do 50mile round trips and hardly break a sweat....real hilly here too! :skep:
Weighed a whole 12lbs! I was 27yrs younger too! LMAO

Sorry I wasn't more specific......I am using the Hoodoo!
This is a pic of my Goose before I cannibalized it.

Long story but I actually bought the Bike for the Fork only for my Goose.
RockShox Tora 318 Solo Air with Pop-Loc and Pump.
Frame is near mint....well all the parts are!
Just missing one crank arm....so I got a whole new Crank for $25 when it was all done.
Oh yeah I paid $200 for the whole bike.....thus $230 in it! :eekster:

More about it here.

Ah! well that makes sense! ;)
43 lbs!?!! OMG that is some weight you are carrying. The frame must be chromolly steel construction. Those are good for clearing small obstacles without feeling a damn thing but are killer on ascents.

Believe it or not it's heavy gage aluminium....real heavy! :D
Suspension was great to have but that was about it.
In order it get a light weight full suspension it'd cost me as much as I paid for my work ride.
Given the economy and such it's just out of the question for me.

Right now I have the Hoodoo at right around 30lbs.
