Re-finish

I've got a Heckler that's two and half years old and was wondering if Santa Cruz will, for a price, re-finish PC frames. Has anyone here ever sent their frame back to SC for paint? How long did it take? How much did it cost?

Wouldn't it be easier to just call Santa Cruz up and ask?
Yes... but, I thought a brother could help another brother out given the time of day AND relay their experience, possibly negative, which SC surely would not do.
I'm not sure if SC...

I don't know if SC re-paints frames, my guess is no. There must be a little shop somwhere that could do it for you, I seam to remember something about custom PC'ing in the forums. Try searching for painting or custom powder coating.

Good luck,

Santa Cruz will re-powder your frame but.....

Santa Cruz will re-powder your frame but it is more money and trouble than it is worth. I checked into it with them earlier this year. They charge about $250 for the re-powder coating plus shipping. So, that's shipping both ways you will have to pay. So, figure it will be close to $300.00. Oh, they also include new stickers for that price. You can buy a sticker kit in silver or black off their web store for about $22.00. Now, here's the kicker, they told me it would take 6-8 weeks before I would get my frame back. So, I did some research and found some very good powdercoat companies here in the bay area that will do it for much less and out of all of them 2 weeks was the longest turnaround time and that is if you chose a very unusual custom color. The quality of powder coating you get from going to a reputable powder coat company will blow away the quality of the factory powder coats that SC has on the new frames they send out.

Santa Cruz says that they will void the waranty if the frame is re-finished by anyone other than them but your frame is out of waranty aleady anyhow.

Dude, take it yr local powdercoating place and then get any color you want. I had my Heckler done by Miller Powdercoating . They did a kickass job, quickly and for far less than what SC will charge.
:D

Yep, they will do it. There is a guy named Willie working there, real cool guy, he will hook you up.

here is the email from them "it is $180.00 for a repaint. bearings and hardware included." This was in April, so it may be different now.
Good luck

You mean the quality of your original powdercoat finish wasn't enough to put you off? Only refinishing of my old Heckler's paint job I'd go for is a change to a polished or anodized finish.
Thanks for all the info. I checked with a local powder coater and they will do the frame for $115, in any color, and, at most, take a week. Not bad.
Getting it done locally will also give you a much better colour choice.

Quite liking green myself. :D

That's an awesome color of green

That's an awesome color of green. It looks like it is a metalic color. What is the powder coat color called?

Put up some more pics!
For those that had their bike powder coated at an independent shop, what did you pay? And did that include prep? did they sand blast or use paint stripper? Thanks.
Cheers, it was already painted that colour when I bought it (2nd hand). I'd been on the look out for a Heckler for a while, and that colour sold it too me.

The paint job was done by Argos Cycles here in the UK, I think the colour is number 74 (Forest Green Metallic) on their colour chart but I'm not 100% sure.

More pics here

Yep, that is a great colour

Thanks for the additional pictures. That is a fine looking Heckler. Those pictures were at Les Gets?
First two riding pictures were taken in Les Gets, the second two (with black border) where in Les Arcs a bit further south.

Brew cycles in North Carolina will do it for 175. There is another place that will do it for 75 but I lost the address. Googleing powercoating will get you there. I am thinking about doing the same thing to my white that is now scratchy brown...
