I took my old '02 Razorback frame that was too small for me and built it up for my wife. I used parts from around the shop, some from swap meets, and some from ReCyclery in San Rafael, CA. It is amazing what you can find on sale, as well. I spent under $100 for the parts I didn't already have lying around. I especially like the Titec Ti bars I got for $14. Can't beat that!

I even tried my hand at wheelbuilding. I had a WTB disc hub lying around in my parts bin along with a Bontrager Mavrick rim. I used a set of measureing calipers to get the hub dimensions, a spoke calculator program and instructions from www.sheldonbrown.com and spent an evening in front of the tele lacing and tensioning it up. It came out nicely. I haven't built a wheel since I was 12 when I mated an Araya alloy rim with a drum brake hub for my Haro Freestyler.
