Ratio recommendation needed for the Womble

535 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  wooglin
I am heading to the womble here in the next week and i need to know a good ratio to use. Coming from Dallas its pretty flat so your normal 2:1 is pretty common. But for the womble i think its a different story. I was thinking of going 34:20 but i am starting to think that is too low of a gear and i'll be spinning my brains out on the flats. Who all has been there and what did you run?

32:18 for the Ouachita Challenge. Good gear for that terrain and distance I think, although a 2:1 is definitely doable for shorter days.

Well i know we are planning on doing one entire way the first day...so 34 or so miles. So i think with the 34:20 i might be ok.
32x20 on 29er...

and I feel pretty comfortable in all the Arky terrain I've encountered so far. I have not take this bike to Womble yet, but on similar trails this ratio works for me. I'd probably do 32x18 on a 26" and if needed, spin like a track racer on the flats.

Womble sounds good, haven't been there in a while, last time I wanted to go it was a thunderstorm down there. Might just go there Thursday of this week. Temps are suppose to be good all week, very little rain forecast for the near future.

Womble on...
32x18

32x18 or simular should be fine. I did it when we were living in Dallas and that worked fine for me. Beautiful trail......reminded me much like some of our trails here in Ca. Did it with some DORBA folks.....they were great...

Enjoy

Eric

You either know or you don't know. So I guess you know.

Or you're thinking of a restaurant in Colorado Springs. I've got nothing to do with the restaurant.
Wooglin,

Where did you go to school? I graduated from OU in '97. ~kai~

I rode the Ouachita Challenge with a 34:17, but kinda wished I hadn't. I did ok, but I was wasted for two days. For a fun ride, I might go with a 34:18. BTW, they had cool trophies for the single speeders.

Colorado College. Long ago before they yanked the chapter.
