Rank Order All the Bikes You've Owned

5163 Views 50 Replies 37 Participants Last post by  brentos
I've been thinking about how happy I am with my current bike and how I feel no need to replace it. It's absolutely perfect for our trails and how I ride and far more versatile than it's intent and reputation.

It got me thinking if I've ever liked a bike as much at the time of ownership...against it's contemporary competitors, trying to put myself in that moment...when I own the bike. I did realize that I've had some bikes I've been very fond of at the time of ownership, but not quite to the same level as my current bike. I even made a rank-ordered list.

I debated posting this in another forum, but I think this is the best as we likely have similar tastes in bikes. Anyway, here's my list. I'm going to post bikes of other types as well for fun, all have been raced XC except the drop bar bikes. Post your list if you're into it.

The top ten are pretty stellar bikes, the bottom six were either critically flawed or just didn't fit/work well for me. Everything in between were solid performers that I enjoyed riding, but weren't outstanding.

OP, that is a lot of bikes. Mine is a bit shorter. 🤣

1. 2021 Santa Cruz Tallboy
2. 1997 Marin Bear Valley
That's almost too hard to do. It's like old girlfriends, unless there was a horrible relationship that ended badly, all the girls have had their pluses and minuses. They're all similar yet equally varied in so many ways that their individual strengths don't make the entire package remarkably better than any of the others.

If you try to use a bike for something it's not made for or naturally good at, that's when the negatives mount up, but if they're used in the right environment, they're well suited.

The question is, do you keep the old ones in the garage still?
Lol

been riding 30 plus years and between DH,XC and road I usually purchased 2 new bikes a year. I have fond memories of some but cannot decide if it was the bike or where it took me.
I have kept two that have real meaning,
20?? Kona Stab Supreme. Equipped with a floating brake and custom 888.
20?? Intense Uzzi VPP that is totally thrashed from use.
And my current favorite rides,
2022 Kona Honzo
2021 Kona 134 supreme
2020 Kona HEI HEI cr built from frame
2017 Kona HEI HEI Race Supreme handed down to my son (lucky guy)
1995 Wasatch Cycle Works titanium
1994 Co Motion hardtail (favorite single track bike)
1993 Boulder Bicycles FS
1992 Specialized S Works steel
1991 Bridgestone MB-0
1990 Bridgestone MB-0
1989 Bridgestone MB-1
1988 Bridgestone MB-2
1987 Specialized Hardrock
1984 Dorado Sherpa

Most loved bike was the Co Motion but it had a short life due to seat stay weld failure.

Most sentimentally attached to was/is the WCW ti.

Most fun is my current Kona. Just love it!

I had a long period without biking. So not that many bikes but still hard to rank them:

Canfield Nimble 9 2021 (Current bike, I wanted an hardtail for a while and having a blast on this bike)
Ibis Ripmo V1 (current bike)
Intense Spider Comp 2013 (first 29" carbon trail bike)
Peugeot Canyon Express 1987 (not 100% sure about the model, first "real mtb" with biopace triple crankset, was so stoke about this bike at the time)
Salsa Blackborow 2015 (being able to ride 10-11 months a year even during winter was game changer for me)
Trek Fuel EX8 around 2005
Kona hardtail around 2000-2003, can't remember model, gold frame, looked a bit like an Explosif... bought from a racer, xtr with Marzocchi fork (got stolen and I bought the Trek with insurance money)
Had a few more but can't remember them well enough...
My list of the funnest bikes I’ve owned.

Late 70’s Big Wheel. Not a bike per se, but my absolute favorite
2016 Yeti SB6c
2020 Pivot 4SL
2019 Yeti SB150
