Hi all,
Im about to be a proud owner of Revel bike.
Im building up Ranger frame now, swapping parts from my current Stanton Switchback TI (shift a little toward longer ride, less park DH....).

I now noticed below info on Revel HP.
For those who use Shimano crank sets, can you pls show how much the clearance is with the frame, using off-set chainring ? Anyone faced any issues using the recommended chainring ?
I trust Revel info, but just would like to see how it really works as it seems 3mm offset is not enough ?? to clear chain rubbing the rear triangle.... just to be sure...
If no issue, I will order wolftooth ring right away !

Thanks !
Yugo

A known clearance issue exists between the mounting bolts on Shimano XT M8100 / SLX M7100 chainrings and the Revel Ranger frame. If you plan to use a Shimano XT or SLX crankset with your Ranger frame, you will need to use a 3rd party, direct mount chainring with Boost spacing (52mm chainline, 3mm offset). We recommend the 32t Wolftooth Direct Mount Chainring for Shimano Cranks.

It sounds like the issue is the bolts on the chainring. When I had a Ranger, I used a Race Face Next crank and had similar extremely tight clearance on the Wolftooth CAMo spider and ring ( which uses a bolt on ring). It was too close for comfort so I got a Wolftooth direct mount spider/ring and it had plenty of clearance. Sounds like the Shimano is similar in that the bolt heads are the issue, so you just need a one piece spider/ring.

Hi, Ive been searching for this info all day today.... thank you !

I fitted shimano xt M8100(52chainline) with Garbaruk chainring(not shimano xt chainring) and the chain interferes with the frame, rear triangle.

I just want to be very clear if using Wolftooth 3mm offset would solve the problem, still using M8100....
I hope someone can post the pic with this set up, to prove its working fine.

Brgds,
Yugo

Ok, rereading your post seems like your issue is different, in that you have chain clearance, not chainring clearance issues. I am afraid I cannot speak to that one, my issue was from the chainring bolts.

Check you chain line. I am betting it's not 52 mm. Maybe you have the chain ring flipped the wrong way.

This is on the SS forum, but you can use the same procedure to measure the chain line on a geared bike.

CHAINLINE math | Mountain Bike Reviews Forum (mtbr.com)

If that doesn't help. More details will be useful to trouble shoot. I cannot imagine that you need to buy another chainring. But maybe.

How many teeth in the chainring?
Picture of the interference?
Where is the interference? "rear triangle" leaves a lot for interpretation.

Yeah, Revel was dumb to make the frame this wide, especially considering all the "clever" chainrings out there like from Absolute kak, or Oneup, or Wolftooth that "fix" the chainline by dishing in 3mm, what a nightmare.
