Hey! Hope someone can give me advice on what ramp / jump to buy for my son who is crazy about riding. He will ride all morning on singletrack only to come home and play on the ramps and balance beams/teeter totters we have in the backyard (all homemade).

However, we have to travel. We need something highly portable (not DIY / homemade). We need to spend the fall / winter living out of our camper taking care of my Grandma and won't have space / time for homemade ramps, and weight is an issue as well.

I'm on a budget. $200 max. I know Ninja makes a MTB hopper Intro ramp, and it's right at $200 but, don't I need two of them if he's going to use them in the cul-de-sac / street? Or do the kids just land flat? Ouch.

What else is out there? And what do you recommend?

((He is almost 9yrs, an Enduro kid at heart, but also rides BMX, XC and some Cyclocross. Rides a 26" Santa Cruz LT. Heroes are: Danny McAskill, Fabio Wibmer, Kate Courtney, and Eli Tomac))

The budget definitely places some constraints. I've been kinda investigating this same question (I'm not 9, though, just crazy) and the best one I've found seems to be the MTB Hopper line-up. Nothing but good reviews of the product (except a lot of criticism of the price) and they had a couple at the Trek Dirt series session I was at recently.

But they are spendy, no doubt about it.

Probably not the direction you are looking for but what about a couple small pieces of plywood. You can prop them up against almost anything to create jumps, tables, etc..

In my backyard, I have a stack of pallets, cinder blocks, etc. that allows for limitless fun

I have the Byclex Kicker. It's a good ramp and it (as well as their other ramps) can be used with straps as a backpack. Literally takes 2 min to set up or break down. I easily store it in my thule box when i travel.

A DIY version that may work is Plans from Lunch Ride Build Projects - Lunch Ride

A client built one and he has been pleased with it. It's too heavy to be carried long distances, but if you're just setting it up near the camper it may work.
