Hi guys,

Know there are a lot of metal fans on here.

Well, in the UK we've got X-Factor (Simon Cowell's UK show, like Idol in the States). It ALWAYS gets the Christmas Number One Single and it sucks.

So us Brit metallers are buying RATM - Killing In the Name Of to get it to Christmas Number One.

I have no idea if a USA purchase of it would help, but it's a damn good song so worth a try.

It's on Amazon.co.uk

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001I4NZP4/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

Only a few cents to buy and it'll help get a metal band to No.1 rather than X-Factor

www.ragefactor.co.uk for more details.

Cheers and now back to Intense

Does Amazon count towards the chart? I thought it was just iTunes, Play.com and some other place (not Amazon)...
Oh sh*t! Didn't know that and just checked and it seems no-one's 100% sure.

Either way, if you want to buy, go to play.com then!

Thanks mate

Amazon.co.uk Music Team says:
We can confirm that sales of MP3s from Amazon.co.uk, including "The Climb" by Joe McElderry and "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against The Machine, count towards the Official UK Charts.

That's sweet!

Currently Number One for RATM here, but the physical CD disc single goes on sale today for X-Factor which could make a huge difference. So need as many people to buy as possible.

USA purchases won't help sadly...... its the UK chart.

A bunch of people including myself have been rallying round on facebook to get this to number one to kick the X-factor crap to the kerb.

Whats more, Tom Morello (Rage against the Machine) has promised to donate ALL profits from 'Killing in the name' this Christmas to Charity!! Amazing. Now everyone (UK or otherwise) )go buy it and get that warm fuzzy feeling of helping save lives, and sticking it to the man!

I like a lot of RATM stuff, but it sure as heck is not metal.

Back in the day, we called it '' Rap Core ''
I'm curious what you called '' metal'' before it ?
Make this interesting........

Well, there are possibly too many subcatagories, no argument there. I'd call RATM mostly hip-hop, more like the Beastie Boys than Iron Maiden or Megadeth. If I were to further split into "metal" and "heavy metal" I'd have to think about how older stuff that was "heavy metal" is now considered not quite as heavy, but again, due to it's hip-hop roots I wouldn't put RATM in the "metal" catagory at all. I'd be ok with calling RATM some kind of "rock", but again, nowhere near "metal".

I'd probably catagorize "metal" as most of the heavier 80s music, some of which was considered to be "heavy metal" back then. Not many people are trying to make this music anymore. Don't get this confused with the 80s "glam-rock" crap that was in there trying to woo young girls in huge stadiums. I'd say "metal" existed in the 90s to some extent as well, but it's died out big time here in the US. Now we just get crap pop-rock crammed down our throats. Some new band has their 3 months of fame and they get played all over the radio, but they die out completely in a year. None of them have the talent or musical ability to sustain or do anything that will be remembered.

All of this shouldn't be construed as a hit on RATM, as I said I definitely like me some RATM, but I wouldn't consider it part of my "metal" songs.

80's metal was a band called Overkill.
No glam, just slam.
