Racing on an Iron Horse SGS

I already knew of the Iron Horse's reputation for good/cost effective bikes, and after racing a few events on mine, I can say I am really assured this is a great rig.

A great advantage is how it is easy to "place" the rear wheel wherever you need it. It's very manuverable too and still quite stable.

Here are some pics of the "black bird"!

Nice pics. Have you had any trouble with the shock?
No problems at all

Had no problems at all with the shock. Depending on the course I prefer a more supple suspension, so I then "open up" the settings. The geometry also helps with the "quality of travel".

That bike looks awesome, the black looks so much better than the yellow and the red dorados suit it perfectly. Have you got any pics of the bike by itself?

I am in the process of getting a 21" SGS Team DH. How heavy are you and what shock setting do you use i.e. air pressure, spring weight and any others that you can be bothered to type.

I am 210lbs and am doing research into shock settings although i hope the manual will tell me everything i need to know to make the shock as plush as possible
Ironhorse SGS For Big Guys...

Do you recommend this bike for someone 235lbs?

I am around 215 lbs and have had no major problems with my SGS DH pro. Pretty stiff setup with the 12 mm thru axel. The only problem I had the bike setup a bit soft to start and bent the lower shock bolt by bottoming out. I would suggest upgrading the bolt to something of a higher grade right of the bat.

Otherwise, I love the bike and will continue to race it again this season.

i was thinkin bout gettin a kona stinky instead of a iron horse sgs expert. wat do u think?
do u think the stinky is a better bike for the same cost. i found a new 05 kona stinky for 1400 and i found a new 04 sgs expert for 1400. what do u think i should buy?
So there are...

some things that might be suspect on the bike? Or is the bolt a problem for any rider or just heavy ones. Tough decision. I think I will keep looking a bit.

I don't think the bolt is really a problem with the bike. I weigh 215# and ride mine pretty hard. About the first week I had the bike I bent the bolt and Iron Horse immediately replaced it with a new upgraded part. It has a larger diameter/different bushing configuration and has held up fine for the past year. I'd take the SGS over a Stinky any day.
i just bought the sgs and it feels great
thanks
