Wow, very similar to the OneUp Comp Al pedals that have been avail for like 5 yrs now. I like RaceFace, So, if the color was totally cool, I could go for it. Otherwise, OneUp

Step backwards in design swapping the triple row outboard bearings for one bushing. I ran the originals for years with one bearing swap. Very reliable pedals. Bushings wear out pretty fast and drag more. They should have stuck with full bearings.

Exactly. I bought these for the wife a few months ago, as they're one of the few remaining premium flats that still uses full bearings. Not any more it seems. 😝 OneUp even switched over to bushings last year mid-production.
I still can't see the obsession with bushings in applications that require rotation to the extent that a pedal does.

Shimano flats use bearings. After my first generation Atlas failed, in short order I might add, I went to Shimano XT flat. They use the same bearing system as the SPD, are economical, and easily last a decade.

That's what I'm running, PD-M8140, and they're my favorite pedal. The bummer is that in the new/revised line-up from Shimano they've dropped the 8140 and switched to thinner pedals with bushings 😝

It looks like they have a new concave flat pedal, the 8141 that uses bushings. They still list the 8040, which uses bearings, hopefully they don’t drop it.

I was thinking the same thing. It seems like Race Face is just trying to play catch-up these days. Wasn't One Up founded by the former Race Face employees?

The atlas pedal design dates back to 2013 I think. Safe to say RF wasn't influenced by one up's design. The one up pedal is convex, atlas has some body concavity. That alone sets the two apart more than many other pedals you might compare. RF isn't playing catch up, they are playing the same game just about every company plays: redesign for better or worse once an existing item's sales drop. For my money, the the original design was better, but redesigning is a proven way to ramp up sales.

Another difference between the old and new is that all the pins on the newer model seem perpendicular to the plane of the pedal. The older Atlas actually angled the leading pins back a little, but I can't say I notice the impact of this...expecially if you focus on keeping heels down.

Yeah the angled lower pins was an interesting idea but I can't say it did anything for me. It makes sense considering when we drop heals that would weight the lower angled pins so they dig in upwards but I never noticed increased grip. I found the original pedals to have mediocre grip. I ran longer pins to increase grip. The reports of these having more grip than the OG is almost entirely due to longer pins.
