I am waiting on a Pivot Trail 429 Enduro full SRAM X01 build, WITH G2 RSC 4 pot brakes(I like real brake fluid). Now I am being told it may be 2 months or more waiting for the quality Reynolds BLACKLABEL 309/289 wheels and SRAM.

Owner suggested instead in a few weeks I could get:
XT/XTR build which is really more XT.
XTR derailleur, Race Face Aeffect R Crankset and XT 4 pot brakes. Dt Swiss XMC-1501 wheels 36 point engagement.
I get the impression RACE FACE quality has dropped from 10 years ago or more. Am I wrong?
Looking into future when the Race Face or SRAM BB needs replaced is it easier to get a better aftermarket MATCH FOR THE X01 or AEFFECT Crankset? CHRIS KING, Cane Creek, Wheels Manufacturing as a replacement?
Ok I just found out the Race Face comes with a Shimano BB.
Also Better hub DT OR i9 hydra? I have heard good and bad about both. The DT SWISS eats itself but no pedal kickbac. The i9 Hydra is durable but a lot of kickback.
I think the CXRAY spokes are better on the REYNOLDS vs the double butted DT COMP.
Ease and cost of parts and maintenance during ownership of DT XMC-1501 vs REYNOLDS BLACKLABEL i9 Hydra hub?
No REDBULL.COM RAMPAGE with the bike just XC to trail riding. Not a big huck to flat bike.
6’1” 175 pounds rider in the Virginias, Pa., Tn. Region.
My gut says wait on the X01 build.
Any other comment, ideas, wisdom?
Thank you.

I’m the same height as you but weigh 10# more — not that this has anything to do with anything.
I’ve got 3 bikes with RF cranks — nary a problem. One of these cranks is 4 y/o and ridden hard. Really hard. As I said, nary a problem.
Personally I’d prefer the Shimano drivetrain but that’s just me.

Naw. they just look different. Sapim is kind of full of crap when it comes to their descriptions, they just want you to buy the most expensive spokes. The DB spokes with their varying cross-section are generally better, more resilient, not as stiff, etc. There is no aero advantage for mtb. The CXray is just about flashy stuff on a mtb and some of the carbon-fiber mfrs won't build with them, because they make the wheel too stiff and lead to possible breakages. I'd only recommend those spokes for vanity reasons.

The shimano BB with a 24mm spindle RF crank is a good combo. RF 30mm spindle in a BB92 bike is not.

Which carbon fiber manufacturer doesn't buid with CX spokes? Is that because they need flexy spokes because their rims are too stiff? :)

For sure an aero advantage is unlikely in Mtb, but lighter spokes are lighter spokes...?

Lasers are just as light and strong. They are cold forged. Cxrays are bladed lasers.

Yup. Other than their Next carbon - I stay far away from those.

Agreed! One of my riding buddies broke a set of those a couple months ago.
He’s replacing them with metal cranks which are worth their weight IMO & IME.
My 105# GF rides the CF RF Nexts — and gets air — but… did I mention she weighs 105#?

XT/xtr is fine and shift better up/down under load than Sram. Sram has a lighter touch at the lever and less drivetrain 'shock' when shifting. I current run a Sramino, xo1 shifter, slx cassette.
XTR derailleur, Race Face Aeffect R Crankset Truthfully in a bb92 application 24mm is better here than Dub or 30mm spindle because you will get regular sized bearings rather than problematic under sized ballz and XT 4 pot brakes. Dt Swiss XMC-1501 wheels 36 point engagement.

Carbon cranks maybe, the alloy stuff seems to be fine.
Looking into future when the Race Face or SRAM BB needs replaced is it easier to get a better aftermarket MATCH FOR THE X01 or AEFFECT Crankset? Do you ride wet or dry? if dry it doesn't really matter. CHRIS KING, Cane Creek, Wheels Manufacturing as a replacement?

Also Better hub DT OR i9 hydra? I am bias towards i9 and you get color choice like blue I have heard good and bad about both. The DT SWISS eats itself but no pedal kickbac. The i9 Hydra is durable but a lot of kickback.

Ease and cost of parts and maintenance during ownership of DT XMC-1501 vs REYNOLDS BLACKLABEL i9 Hydra hub? Don't know about DT but high engagement hubs need/should be kept well lubed.

Carbon cranks are overrated. RaceFace carbon sucks.

I like aero spokes but my wheel builders don’t. I’m heavy so I want stiff.

I prefer SRAM because I have a silly bias against Shimano but I would run either.
