here's a photo of my new rip 9 i just had built up. it's pretty much my dream bike and was my 40th birthday present to myself. my former bike is a large santa cruz superlight.
i took this photo right when i got it home, cause i proceeded to take it for a ride that night, and then this weekend, rode the $h!t out of it in crested butte, including reno/flag/bear/deadman's and then star pass/taylor pass back to aspen....all told about 60 miles of rugged terrain. i bought it to ride it, and i couldn't think of a better way to break it in.

here it is:
niner rip 9 medium raw :p
reba team sl dual air 120mm w/ 20mm thruaxle - not sure if i've really dialed it in yet, and also not sure if i'm getting air leaking between the 2 chambers.
sram xx 26/39 front, 11/36 rear :D
shimano xt br-775 disc brakes  180mm rotor front/160mm rotor rear
stans flow wheels  (they took a beating this weekend no issues)
hope pro ii hubs (based on mtbr reviews)
specialized captain control 2bliss 2.20 :)
wtb rocket v team sl saddle
race face deus seatpost
race face next sl riser bar
ergon gp1L grips:thumbsup:
crank brothers eggbeater 3 pedals  couldn't release twice on my right pedal and went down pretty hard.
110mm stem (pretty dialed)
28.75lbs.

i gotta say, the ergon grips are a must. 5.5miles of descent down super rocky, loose, rugged terrain from 12,000 feet, combined with the xt brakes, my forearms and hands never once tired and i had supreme control.
can't say enough about the stans flow rims. i can't believe the beating they took this weekend and are as true as they were when i left the shop. some really deep water crossings too, i will probably service my hubs sooner than normal.

xx shifts like a dream. i found the 26/36 plenty low gear for my riding style...and without a doubt, this bike climbs beautifully. i never could ride the 22/34 granny gear on a 3x9 cause i felt it was too low. i found myself shifting more in the front derailleur than ever. whether it's xx, or in the future xo,x9 or x7, i highly recommend 2x10, especially if you can push a 22/30 as your lowest gear.

my setup is a little more upright than most, but it suits me fine, even climbing steep terrain. i've since added a longer stem (110mm) and a small spacer which seems to have lengthened my effective stem length, and makes climbing out of the saddle a little better.

i cannot say enough good things about the rip9 and the big wheel setup. i will never ride a 26" bike again and remember thinking that to myself while popping off of every rock that could on the descent into aspen. i feel this bike is the perfect combination of big wheels, nimble handling, damp suspension, smooth climber, and wicked fast descender.

after a couple days off, i cannot wait to get on that bike again!!

Throw in some riding pics next time so those of us who think a hill is 300 ft can have dreams!
will do...funny thing is we were going to take photos of this ride over the 2 passes, and we were just getting chased by the weather the whole time, we never got around to it! we should have, cause the terrain was amazing, and the scenery was 360 degrees.

Really a nice RIP indead.:)

Myself I wasnt sure if I want to go with bare aluminium or pure black and I choose all black instead. Here is mine as a contrast. Its now 11.9 Kg pure fun. I changed the Fox fork for a Lefty Max PBR 140mm with the help from the guys at Project321 (new adapter for tapered headtube) and a 29er modification done by Dr. Cannondale in Germany. The fork fits on the frame by a millimeter, just perfect. Now it climbs like hell and runs just perfect for me.

Didnt wanted to spam your thread, but "RIP heaven" was such an attractive header, which fits just nicely on my current bike feeling. I have actually tested the silver one and nearly bought it, since the surface is really attractive.

The wheel is just the usual size, "small" 29er :) Its more of a foto effect.

spam? not in the least. i like your style. that's quite a mod there.
in hindsight, i really like anodized frames. they keep their appearance the best, but the black wasn't available anymore and i wasn't really in a brown mood. in 4 rides, i've already scratched the frame and cranks pretty good from a pretty good crash.

i like to keep everything low key. i will likely pull all the stickers off the fork and shock soon.

Same for me. Stickers on the fork are already gone. The others will follow. Just the Niner stickers I will keep. Thats the last version:

And yes, the scratches are already there, on frame and cranks and some small rub-off too. Well anyway, this bike is for riding not showing around. I have however the feeling your raw version will take the scratches much better than mine.

I think an action shot is a better way to look at the RIP, me riding Kingdom Trail in Vermont this past weekend

Might not be the case locally in Switzerland, but here in the USA, Land Managers frown highly on the practice of skidding on multi use trails, as it is quite damaging, as well as other trail users find it highly offensive, giving it as a reason to ban mountain bikers from sharing the trails. The expression used is "Ride it, don't Slide it" It is considered bad form and riding "Out of Control", and sets bad examples for newer riders. In other words, "Rookie Move", kid.

okay....so after riding the crap out of my new RIP today I proved that even with 29in wheels, I'm not immune from going OTB! Damn you RIP for making me feel so confident and comfortable!!!
Heh.

Yeah, I still get off my RIP once in a while and usually I am going a lot faster than I used to. :D

Great build, I think I need a bike with XX.

Here's a pic from yesterday of Chuky with her hybrid RIP build... a little bit country XC with the KFL cranks and XO parts, a little bit rock n roll with wide bars, 2.35 tires on Flow rims and a Maxle rear.
