I'm saving my pennies for a IRO, till then; can you run a fixed gear on a traditional mountain bike style drop-out? I'm not sure if tradition techniques that make ss possible on a vertical DO would work with a fixxed gear.

Yes, if you can find a magic gear. You can't run a tensioner though, so unless you have a usable magic gear, Fixed is out on a vertical dropout frame with no EBB.
