Not sure what a "normal" size spring is, as different shocks and manufactures make different ID size springs for their shocks, sometimes they end up being similer size and there is some cross-usage that is possible, but as an example, there's the ID of the old vanilla R and RC shocks, the ID changed when fox introduced the DHX, then there's Romic, which is close to the ID of Avalanche, then there is the 5th element and Swinger, the Cane Creek, the Rocco, etc. Some of these are similer, there might even be a few that are the same, but as far as I know there is no "normal" size.

ok then, i shall reword my question, perhaps it wasnt put across too well.

Would a spring for a dhx be compatible with a ccdb?
No! DHX springs have a 1.38" (35mm) inner diameter. You have to get a spring that fits Manitou or Progressive shocks. The CCDB needs a spring with a 1.43" (36.3mm) inner diameter. You considering getting one? What's it going to go on?
