Can the brake bosses of a Unit frame be removed?

Usually the bosses have indentations for a wrench to tight or remove the bosses. In my case the boss is completely round and I'm affraid of damaging it by trying to remove it with a vise grip.

I don't mind having them there but would like to remove them, I'm using disk brakes.

Suggestions?

Steel frames usually do not have removable bosses.
