I recently purchased a 2005 Gary Fisher Tassajara from my local bike shop. I love the bike, I've been hitting the trails real hard with it and it has basically withstood everything I have thrown at it.

I'm having sort of a weird problem though, maybe someone can help me out.

As I'm sure everyone who rides a fisher would agree, the geometry is terrific. I am having trouble with the seatpost, however. I am a pretty small guy (5'7", 165 lbs.), but I still like to ride with the seatpost really high. I have tried to tighten it as much as I possibly can, but it seems that every time I finish riding, it still shortens itself by a half inch to an inch. I have put tape just above the post where it meets the frame, so I can tell it is shortened by how much the tape gives. I have tried to put tape around the seatpost and then insert it into the frame but it just won't fit.

Does anybody have any suggestions about how I can get the seatpost to stay where I want it to? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Also, a little off topic...

... but I'm going to be moving to the DC metro area in the next month, and I'm interested in any clubs or groups that are dedicated to riding around the Maryland/Virginia area. A couple of things to try...

Get a second clamp the same size as the seatpost and fasten it around the post level with the top of the frame tube..

Try removing ALL and any lube from the seatpost and the inside of the seatpost frame tube, rough the seatpost with some heavy sandpaper right where it clamps...then tighten it down hard.

I had the same problem with my Tass. Just make sure to lube the clamp. It will allow you to tighten it much tighter and easier. Problem fixed for me.

someone also suggested to me using an allenkey to tighten it, also to use a little sandpaper on the seatpost to roughen it up so the clamp can get a better grip (my 06 hkek had the same problem)

My apologies for the delayed response.

As far as I can tell, yes it did. Although, living on Capitol Hill in DC, i've since switched away from a QR clamp, cause I would hate to ride home from work with my frame jabbing me in the you know what.

Anyway, I had the QR on there with some lube for a while, and there wasn't any more problems. Hope this helps.

I had a blonde moment with my seatpost clamp....The one on my Cake doesn't have the knurled knob opposite the QR lever....it has a hex adjustment screw behind a guard. Took me ages to figure out how to get the thing tighter so my seat didn't slip about 1/2 an inch per ride.

i had the same prob with my tass too... I just kept tightening the clamp. finally stopped but it is a biotch for me to get it closed.

Seatpost clamp was horrible on my '04 Tass as well. A trip to Universal Cycles and a Hope NON quick release fixed the prob for good. And all for less that $20. Now its rock solid. I never have to worry about it, and I never really lowered teh seat riding my local trails so it works for me.

I had an issue with this on my 6700, switched to a Salsa Lip-Lock collar, and all is now well. I can also recommend the Surly Constrictor.
