I've been thinking lately about why ventana uses double bearings instead of double row bearings.

First I thought that it was beacause there are more sizes of normal bearings or because you have more seals that way, but today I've found a website about preload and Duplex ball bearing (Link) and it looks to be the one of the reasons behind quad bearings.

Can anyone confirm this????

Most likely for cost reasons....the last time I spec'd out a double row bearing they were extremely costly in the high precision format. But I would confirm that with Sherwood.....he's the designer. If you're that curious I suggest going to INA, F.A.G, Torrington or SKF's website. They have a host of tools that will allow you to find load ratings for different bearings. Just take the bearing numbers from your frame and the rest is pretty simple.....no engineering degree required just common sense.
