question about "HD" with Vimeo

1299 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Pedalphile
I have an account on Vimeo that I've been posting some videos on. I noticed some videos are VERY high quality with "HD on" in the screen.

All of my videos are filmed with an HD camera, but I noticed my videos don't show "HD" on my screen while my videos are playing.

The quality of the original videos on my hard drive are great, but as soon as I upload them on Vimeo the quality worsens.

Anyone have any advice on how to make my videos higher quality on Vimeo?

Thanks in advance!

good call. Thanks.

I'm filming with a GoPro HD Hero. It only runs at 1080p @ 30 fps.

It says Vimeo needs 1280 x 720 to get HD. So this means I can't be done with a GoPro?

Unless I'm misunderstanding all of that stuff and being brain dead.
Not sure about that-
if you search on vimeo, you will see GoPro has their own HD vids up on the site, like this one:

Check your uploads, a standard vimeo membership only allows ONE HD/week, no mo' unless you subscribe and pay for it (vimeo+)

1080 is the height in pixels. So your video is 720

Your go pro will do the hd sizes. Fro example: R2 Setting is 1280x720 30frames per second.

This demo video gopro is using the r3 setting

After uploading your videos it takes time for them to be converted to HD.

That also may be why your not seeing them in HD yet.
Your GoPro will shoot in multiple resolutions, including 720p. You're not confined to 1080p.

As CharacterZero pointed out, unless you have Vimeo+, you will only get one HD upload per week. This doesn't mean you can't upload more HD videos, it just means that only one per week will stream back in HD. The other uploads that week, even if they're HD, will stream back in SD (480p, I believe).

Also, I would be surprised Vimeo supported HD uploads for only 720p and not higher resolutions. I can't access the site right now (proxy filter @work), but IIRC, you should be able to upload 1080p vids and have them streamed back on Vimeo HD (720p). They obviously have the software to decrease resolutions as they do for non-Vimeo+ subscribers who have already used their one HD upload for the week.
