I’m looking at a new ride (Propain Tyee) and major difference between the two builds are the shocks. The more expenses build has Factory 36/X2. I’m not a Fox diehard. I understand basic+ suspension setup and the mass of dials make me nervous. Saving $1100 gets me a RockShox suspension. A Lyrik Ultimate upfront and Super Deluxe in the rear. Both options are top tier and really shouldn’t suck. Specs attached.

I’m 6-2 and weigh 150ish LBS with my fill kit. I’m basically looking for an enduro-esk bike that will never see lift service (lots of pedaling) or the only race is keeping pace with my friends. I’m not a big hit rider, but my current 130mm rear travel just don’t cut it for me in the harsh stuff. Current ride is a Guerrilla Gravity Trail Pistola with 11-6. I found a used 11-6 in vain but somewhat successful attempt to get good performance for my lightweight self.

So, back to the shocks. The fork I’m less worried about. The Lyrik Ultimate is a solid fork. Currently on an MRP Ribbon Air and love it. I would add an MRP Ramp Control to the Lyrik. I’m guessing zero issues here with my lightweight frame. Set pressure, turn knobs and forget its there 👍🏻.

The rear shock is were the concern comes in. I’ve never been able to setup an inline shock correctly (Deluxe w/custom tune, DPX, DPX2). Either the climbing is great and the decent is harsh or the decent is great and the climbing sucks. Reading reviews about the Super Deluxe all seem great and should hit about 90-95% right out of the box. None of the reviews really address the questions around setup and weight. Most reviews seem to say the shock climbs great, set pressure and now look at the gnarly lines the shock can do and not blow a seal 😒.

Then there is the MegNeg can upgrade for the Super Deluxe. I’ve read reviews and I still don’t fully get it. If there are some layman’s or even caveman terms someone can use, that would be great.

Hopefully I’ll get some real world feedback.

Super Deluxe is way better than a FLOAT X2. Both have their foibles but the Super Deluxe can be easily modified and tuned. Megneg is bollocks, the standard can is better.

Lyrik is also a better out of the box performer than the 36.

But Fox have parts availability and RS don't!

I would save that extra $1100.

Thanks …. I’m not to worried about the supply chain issues right now. If I ordered the bike today, I wouldn’t get it until Jan/Feb ‘22. There isn’t much riding around Denver in the winter. I would be looking at my first rebuild mid ‘23 at the soonest. By that point I hope the supply issues get worked out.

The parts issues aren't supply chain. Rockshox simply do not make spares available.
If you break the air-valve on a Super Deluxe shock it's part of the shock head and the whole shock is toast. If your charger damper breaks a clip or a spring inside they can't be purchased.

🤬…. That is not cool. Thank you for the heads up. I just assumed, wrongly, that stuff like that was available to mechanics and not the general public.

I've got a Tyee with the RS Ultimate suspension... granted, I've only got a couple of rides on it so far, but it's great. I have the MegNeg can on the Super Deluxe, and combined with the 170mm Lyrik up front it's a super plush, playful bike. I'm around 165-170 riding weight, FWIW. I also have a Trail Pistol and have put > 3k miles on the first and second gen Revved models over the last couple years.

Edit with update: after a handful of rides, I swapped the Super Deluxe (with MegNeg) for a RS coil shock (Super Deluxe Ultimate), and it transformed the bike. It's a little heavier, but now the bike floats over everything and is what I imagined it would be. Pedals really well- I've done a few 4,000' vert days- and is still quite playful. With the MegNeg, I found it really nice for the first 25% of the stroke, but it got quite harsh with the Tyee's progressive rear end.
