Last August, I bought my bike.. my first decent bike, a Specialized Rockhopper. I got in some riding, but not much, before winter, but early this spring I joined a local club, met some folks, found a riding partner, and not long after, started dating a guy that worked at the LBS who was doing the odds and ends work on my bike. So all that.... the motivation from my partner and my now boyfriend, has made me want to ride more. And more. Been riding 6 days a week, some road, some singletrack. Same bike. Love it all. Grumpy if I don't ride sort of thing.

My guy and I decided to ride from the freeway east of town, down a lovely two lane highway, and up to summit called Secret Pass. It was beautiful. Quite the climb.. basically 20 miles of mostly climbing, the first part was just a very gradual grade with some ups and down, and a peach of a headwind, and climbing the hill itself took some work. But we did it.... not a big deal for him, he's been an avid cyclist for as long as I've been alive, but big for me. To climb that, and do it on my big ole mtn bike.... I dunno. I'm just happy.

We covered slightly over 40 miles. Ride time was 3 hours, not including a couple of stops. And I cannot wait to get a road bike. Soon, very soon. Oh yes.

Hope you had a nice trip out there... But one question if you don't mind...

Can you tell me how much will it be for a standard road bike???
Would custom be better or manufactured?

P.S.: Please describe your opinion if possible...

I cannot say that I enjoy climbing much, with all the extra weight I am dragging arround, but getting to the top feels like I have accomplished something and deserved the descents.

What I see in the shops, road bikes are priced pretty much like mountain bikes, in Europe anyway: you can get a pretty decent bike for under €1,000 or you can get a wonderful frame for €2,000.

A complete bike is probably the smartest thing for a beginner. Later on , when you know what you like and do not like, a custom might make sense.
