Do you guys know about this online store?

http://www.bikesarea.com/

I think they're based in Spain, but their pricing for new Cannondales (even taking the Euro to $$$ conversion) is pretty good.

I was wondering if anyone here has heard anything about this place, or if they have bought from them?

Also, if anyone knows a good bike store in the greater Los Angeles area that offers some deals on Cannondale please let me know (feel free to private message if you don't want to go public with the info).

Thanks!

Yeah, the lupine is a light set. I was interested in seeing if anyone had purchased from these guys before and had had a bad experience. The web site appears to be legit, and internet sales policies might be different in other countries (regardless what Cannondale wants, certain countries simply don't allow a company's policy to supercede their particular commerce laws).

Anyway, if someone around here has had direct experiences with these guys I would like to know (even if you didn't necessarily buy a bike).

I'm a bit frustrated by dealers around here, nobody wants to budge even a tiny bit from the retail price, yet I know that in other states people have gotten dealers to drop even a few hundred bucks from the final price.

I have no idea on what is a typical mark-up range for a bike shop...but I'm sure there's some room in there for a bit of a discount.

I'm a little leery about on-line dealers selling complete bikes on-line. Something about that site bothers me too. They have three pages of C-Dales and seem to have them all. The photos ripped right off the C-Dale website also bother me. I wouldn't be so convinced. Besides I prefer to try out my bikes before I plunk down that kind of money.

Then again they could be totally legit.

Most shops don't have a very high mark up on most of their inventory. If you are looking for deals then the best time would be in the late fall or winter when they are trying to make room for the next season models. One other thing, unless you have a long standing relationship with a shop I wouldn't expect them to drop their price. They probably deal with dozens upon dozens of other customers who are looking for a discount. Most LBS set-ups are a small business owned and operated. These folks have to make a living.

If they gave one customer a discount they'd have to do it for everybody now wouldn't they.

I disagree with your last statement. I don't think that a bike dealer (or anyone else for that matter) has to honor everyone's request for a better deal....nor does everybody ask for them. I generally ask because of the following reasons:

I know that in most cases there is room to move.

I know of others who have gotten some good deals just by asking.

It's a sign of good faith on the part of the dealer which will have me reccomend the shop to others.

I do my own repair and installations so if the bike dealer offers to air up my tires or tighen up the brakes for me....that's a non issue. If they gave the bike completely disassembled, I would be more than capable to putting it together and fine tuning it myself.

Now...I do agree that these small shops need to make a living, and I am not encouraging anyone from going to nickel and dime these shops to death.

Now, as far as the Pro Bike dealer and the photos ripped off from the Cannondale site....most of the bike net sites I've been to feature the same photos (in some cases linked directly to the Cannondale jpeg) so I'm not sure that's cause for alarm. The fact that the web site has all of the Cannondale models does not necessarily mean that they stock them all. Some might need to be special ordered from the factory.

That is the right question.

damion - If they are not an authorized dealer what would that do to the warranty? What is a Lupine 2006? I get a free one with the purchase of a Rush. Appears to be some light set.
I very well may void the warranty. On the Cannondale boxes it is stated that the bike must be assembled by an authorized dealer..... I am not sure what to say...

I would ask about the method of payment, acting very interested. Offer escrow.com..If they counter with some escrow service youve never heard of...Scam

Some warranties are better than the original.

Friend of mine bought a Cannondale from Costco. Apparently a truckload of Cannondales bound for China got sold to Costco. Cannondale threw a tantrum and declared that they would not honor the lifetime warranty on any bikes bought from Costco. Costco will honor any warranty by the original manufacturer regardless what the manufacturer says. About 3 years later the frame broke. Friend called Cannondale who told him tough [email protected] about any bike bought from Costco. Friend took the broken frame with Costco receipt to Costco where he got a full cash refund.

What so insane about this deal is he made money on it. He paid $600 for the bike. He only took the frame back to Costco and got $600. He went a bought a $99 Supergo frame and transferred most of the components from the broken Cannondale to the $99 frame.

Ok, I think this is a scam. The big alarm bell is the fact that they don't accept credit cards but only money transfers from bank to bank.

Seemed too good to be true!

Oh well....back to the LBS! Let's see if I can get them to throw in a tire lever for my $1600!!!

I don't know for spain, but i ordered stuff from german online stores without problem, and they usually refuse credit cards, I think because credit card transactions are heavily taxed there.
I don't know about this site though, it might be a screwup.
