How close should prices of Pivot bikes outside of the US be to those prices in the US?

I'm wondering why, with the Australian dollar being on parity with the US dollar for the past few months, why the prices of Pivots over here are around $2000 more than in the US?

Is this the same in the UK and othjer areas?

I don't know what the US pricing is, and I don't know what current aus pricing is either, so I can't comment on the spread the importers jetblack have on pivot frames at the moment. However, I paid $2800 aud for my firebird frame back when I got it, which my shop told me was a litle under aus retail at the time. The mag AMB was still listing aus retail as $4100 in their test article at roughly the same time, and I've not seen the price reduced in any of their follow up long term test articles. I think many people would have immediately dismissed buying any pivot frames based on the pricing given in those articles.

Its a seriously sad situation here ! There is someone making a load of cash for doing nothing and i believe its the importer. The dealer buy in price on a 429 frame was about $1000 more than i could buy the frame from the US, then he makes no profit and pays an extra 10% (GST) for selling it to me.

Someone needs to look at the whole business over here, i heard from a reliable source that www.wiggle.co.uk alone sends 4000 packages a week to Australia, nevermind what chainreaction and all the rest ship in.

Our only saving grace is that customs charges dont kick in till the package is over $1000au, so we can basically ship a whole bike in here buying it bit by bit from online stores. My last 4 bikes have been built from online stores and if the importer keeps this daylight robbery up i will continue to buy online.

no problem. lets close all the shops and importers. so it would be even cheaper. till the day there is only left mr. internetshop x and y. then they can rise up the prices 150%. cause there is nobody else in the market anymore. warranty service and stuff like this is useless anyway .....

Who cares !!! The importer driving a new Ferarri and living in a $5mil pad on the beach while the bike shops here are relying on servicing and repairs to survive because of it.

My mate owns a bike shop here and i know exactly how it is for the small guy owning 1 shop.

BTW this is not a refection on JetBlack, im talking about the whole pricing structure in general. I have only ever had great dealings with JB.

If online stores raised prices 150% they'd still be cheaper than the majority of australian pricing. I got an intense tracer through an online store, and its landed cost was almost the same as the aus price with a 10% shop discount, so some importers seem to do the job properly. Unfortunately you're right about warranty service in Australia with the majority of brands, especially if the distributor has changed once or twice.

Wish I could say the same. :madman: I rang them when the AUD was around $0.95US and was told the pricing would come down with the next shipment. How long ago was that? :skep:

I wouldnt even ask anymore, talk with your feet, i do not buy anything here. I get odd bits and pieces from my mates shop at cost price, he tells me if its too expensive here and to get it online.

Perfect example , on-one had TIME carbon XS pedals at $116 a set, i price matched 2 sets with Wiggle and bought them, the dealer discounted price here in oz was $210 a set (DEALER PRICE), then GST of 10% then dealer mark up , they retail at over $300 here a set, i got 2 sets shipped free from the uk at $210 with wiggle discount.

No point saying "support your local bike shop" because they are not relying on sales to survive anymore and i am not lining the pockets of greedy importers.

when you're paying 50% of the local retail price to import a product, you can afford to take the risk that warranty will be only be required rarely. Rather than making a warranty claim, buy a replacement part and keep old one for spares. You'd still be in front financially.

Exactly ! I bought my One9 frame brand new off eBay for $500, the price of them here is only $1349 !!!!!!!!!! Someone said to me "you wont have any warranty", need i say more.

The reason why im taking part in this topic is because i feel very strongly about the rip off here, my mate who owns the shop takes a loss just to get ride of stock sometimes .There are a few manufacturers in the last year who have directed their US sellers to not sell outside the US like, Niner, Fox, Easton ect but there are many ways around that.
In my opinion they need to direct the importer to reel his neck in and price appropriately, its the LBS's who really feel it.
