Hey, this is a pretty stupid question but I'm just curious. Do you think that the price of bike parts will drop greatly after the holidays?? This is my fist year where I've looked online for bike stuff, so I have no idea what to expect. Since all the 06's are comming out it would make sense that they would drop, but.....????
Thanks.

I dont think the price of parts will drop that much. I have noticed that Performance has some killer deals in January on winter clothes that they start clearing out. I am always looking for deals on cassettes and chains because its possible to go through several chains in a year and at least two cassettes. I look pretty close to the internet stuff through Performance and Nashbar and it looked like to me some of the better deals were in May-June. I think if your looking to buy last years model fork anytime late in the year is good.

Not really

It's very curious how prices fluctuate. I bought an EA70 Monkey bar for something like $25 two years ago, and now I can't find one for less than $50. What gives? They're old now, so they should be cheap! As for bikes, I've found that it takes around two years for the prices to really start to drop (especially at online shops). You just have to find the right shop, the one that is clearing out their inventory to make way for new stuff. Scout local shops before looking online.

hard to say
I've gotten sales emails almost everyday this month and its been unusually snowy allready this year so I'm guessing sales haven't been too good. January & Febuary should be a good time to buy summer stuff and April & May will be the time for winter gear.

It will depend on how well sales go over the holidays. If people buy up during the holidays, and inventories go down, prices will probably not go down. If the retailers stock up for the holidays, and people don't spend as much, you'll see a lot of blowout sales in January as a result of high inventory levels. Retailers will want to move that overstock product to generate revenue. Just the basic economics of supply and demand.

In general, it is the off season for bike retailers so keep your eyes peeled in January and February for deals on things you want or need.

Don't forget to factor in shipping costs

seems there are a lot of free or reduced shipping deals right now. it might make sense to take advantage of that fact, esp if you think prices will not drop by much after the holidays. I'm pretty sure the shipping deals will disappear as will inventory if it's a popular item. even better are retailers that don't have to charge you tax... plus free shipping.

I work on a shop that sells Trek, Fisher, Cannondale and all 06 models had a price increment not much but the price went up so based on that don't expect great prices other than bargain basement stuff.

The 06 have been out for a while now.

The 05 has already dropped, on some big company models like Specialized, Trek, etc.

The 05 epic Comp was 2499 at my LBS when it came out in Jan 05.

Dec 05, price dropped to 2000. Maybe mid 06, if those bikes are still left, they would probably be down to 1700.

This doesn't happen with companies like Turner, Titus, Yeti for some reason. They seem to maintain the original price throughout the year.
