as far as i know the 2005 model is M5 alloy while later they beefed it up to A2, they also re enforced areas like the chain stays which were prone to breakage on earlier models

i heard for 2009 the SX trail may be getting a facelift, rumour has it they may be going the enduro SL route with a rocker arm and un interrupted seat tube

Lets see the 05 model is an enduro with a coil . Thats it. After 2005 it got all new geo, tubing, guessets ,ect.

Also 2005 is 150mm just like an enduro while the newer ones are either 167 or 170mm depending on year.

Are u sure about this huge difference? Saying so, means I can buy an enduro, make the coil upgrade and I get an SX 2005 ??

Yes thats right you can add the same eye-to-eye-/stroke shock and yes you will have a bike that = a 2005 sx trail. But it will not have the geo of a 2006+ sxtrail no matter what you do . So it will always have the xc/all mountain geo unlike the freeride/dh geo on the 2006+ sxtrails.

However it will not hold up to serious abuse and may break at some time just like alot of the 2005 sx trails have done.Thats why they change a few things in 2006. Then they also change a thing or 2 for 2007 and again made another change this year. Each year getting stronger and stronger in weak spots. (chainstays)

2005 was the first year for the SXtrail and it piggy backed on the enduro frame.

you will notice that on any sxtrail newer than 2005 will have the following

1. the top tube is shorter
2. Stand over is higher
3. wheelbase is longer
4. Head angle is slacker
5. more travel
6. BB is higher
7. Seat tube angle is more upright
8. guessets on chainstays or redesigned ones of 2008

Those are a few differences

400 x 2.8 cost me £149. I think it was worth it, the weight saving was huge.
