Homegrown resurrection fusing old & new

I recently completed this build of a modern 2000 Homegrown that pays homage to one I owned around 2002. This build fuses an interesting mix of modern and old elements.

1 x 9 Setup

Is that set up 1 x 9? and where did you get the fork?
It's a 1x9, 30t, 11-40 setup. The fork is a local buy from a Pinkbike seller. Hard to find a 26" straight steerer with 15qr ...especially not in white. I reduced it from 120mm to 100mm.

That is a sweet ride. Not sure where you found a 11-40 9 speed cassette?? I have a gold homegrown, but I don't get on it enough.

So this is not your original frame? Where did you get one in such great shape? Also, does it have a 22mm brake mount? Have you ridden it with the 100mm fork? Mine has an 80mm and I thought about going 100, but figured it would throw off the geometry too much.

100mm fork doesn't throw off the geo at all.

Here's mine on the trail:

My '99 Sweet Spot built as a parts bin single speed.

CHEAP Mavic Cross Rides
Old SID World Cup (w/carbon crown) fork
Chris King Headset (that I had sitting in a tool box)
Truvativ Crankset removed from my '01 HG Hardtail SS, when I upgraded
22mm Hayes Rear disk, from my LBS for $5.00
New-ish Hayes Stroker Master Cyl. and levers (and front brake)
Running 34:20 gear.

All in, weighs about 24 lbs. Rides nice though.

Hmmm...where do I begin? I'll start in Chronological order I guess. Mostly have incomplete projects/frames waiting to be assembled but here's a few of mine.

1987 Schwinn Paramountain

Was lucky enough to grab 2 of them

Then there's my Project KOM

Rocket Comp, not sure on the year but my first "real" mountain bike was a 2006 Rocket that was stolen so I picked this up to replace it.

I have many more Schwinns stashed away, including my Homegrowns, in my other storage area that I'll post up once I get a chance. Hope you all like my collection :D

Post up your Homegrowns. Built bikes, or just frames?

I only have 1 built up at the moment, the others are wall hangers with the parts I've gathered for them in storage. I typically don't build anything until I'm going to ride it or if it's a vintage bike and I'm doing a restoration (The Paramountain, KOM, and a few others). I'm on the FB Homegrown group, I posted up a few pictures of my 01 Homegrown Pro over there; I'll stick them in here once I get home. Right now my main rigs are a 95 Moab Elite that I've updated with modern parts and swapped to disc brakes and my 01 HG that I have setup single speed. I also have that Schwinn Modified 97 Moab Single Speed that was up for sale a little while ago. Planning to take that one out on the trails this weekend.

I'm a member of the Homegrown FB group too. We've probably chatted.

^^^ Nice! My '01 hard tail is up there in post 667, above.

36:14? Where do you live? I'm 32:18, but am almost always climbing.

I'm in Florida, not many steep climbs here, mostly technical trails in my area but I have a bit of old BMX riding programmed into my head/body and I like to sprint so I tend to like higher gear ratios.

Your 01' looks killer! I'm still hunting for an 01' Factory Limited in my size. You're right, 100mm forks are just fine on these bikes; I'm running a 100mm Sid XX on mine.

I was lucky to find my '01. It was a NOS unbuilt frame in its original box, when I found it in '14. They turn up from time to time, but they're getting fewer and further between.

I restored this thrift-store $40 find last year, it's my hybrid-turned-29er.

Handles the singletrack really well and is a great errand bike with the not-so-aggressive Hutchinson Python $8 knobbies.
