Post-work rides in Sacramento?

755 Views 9 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  croatiansensation
I work in the Arden district of Sac (near Cal Expo) and would like to take advantage of the late-setting sun in the summer. Anyone have any suggestions for a post-work ride? The more climbing the better even if it's a non-technical trail, just need to get in shape. Folsom/Auburm is good but too far for me.

Thanks!

Good luck finding anything with climbs here in Sacramento! I live up around auburn blvd and the only place I have really found to ride is the horse trail (its called the Bridle Trail) up around Watt and Auburn. The only downside is that it is kind of bum infested, but I have never been bothered by anyone while riding on it.

The bike trail is calling you. You do know about the American River Bike Tail, don't chya? There's no climbing anywere in Sac, but the bike trail runs right behind Cal Expo and could be perfect for your afterwork training rides.
You could always take the bike trail to the Sac State area and do hill repeats up the side of the levy :p
Lake Natoma (sp?), granite bay?

What about these trails? Are they worth the drive? Any hills? I could maybe drive a little bit out of Sac for some climbing action.
There are short climbs around lake natoma and granite bay. Mostly rollers though, no sustained climbs. The drive isn't that much shorter than Salmon Falls or Auburn though.
Try lake natoma up to beals point, that's a wee bit of a climb, heck you could take beals all the way to granite bay do a loop and go back down. Avoid highway 50 at rush hour though. That place is a disaster.

Ride. Ride hard. Granite Bay, hell, anywhere, will give you a hard workwout if you push yourself. Last week we did a total of about 900' of climbing in our little 2.5 hour ride. Doesn't seem like a lot of climbing, but when you're hammering, you will feel it.

jps

Yeah, I get a little nervous when I ride under the Watt Ave. overpass, but like I said never been bothered. Hopefully, more people will use it and that will drive the tweekers/bums out of there. It is kind of a fun flat out spin after work.
