Sinker, I had the same problem with my old Polar S510, I brought both my watch and strap to my local Polar authorized watch repair shop where they also serviced Tag and other automatic watches, they placed the strap to a mechanism that tests the strength of the battery... I just recall that there was a sequence of 4 yellow / green lights, if all green appear, then the battery is still good. If yellow or combination, then it's time to replace.

Well, the battery in my strap was completely dead. They offered to give me a new strap for a fraction of the retail price so I just took a new one. Everything works perfectly now.
