Does PNW ship product without any process control, leaving the customer to determine if it is defective or not?

Surely the warranty is a scam. I'm sure they rub their balls (or if it's a female shredder.....well, you know...) on every article of clothing roughly...after opening it, prior to sending it to the customer, then resealing the packaging so you will never suspect it before getting it to your door ensuring top notch quality with no reservations. Riders in the PNW don't dick around. On another note...PNW is a great company to work with, very responsive and I can't wait until my Frumunda Cheese soaked Range bars get here this week.

I think it's just DWR. "Water resistant" usually just means "gets wet" but I'm guessing it's similar to Scotch Guard where it helps prevent stains or complete, immediate soaking.

A mfg defect can show up any time - not just right after the mail man comes by, bangs your mom and leaves the package on the step.

Say you're riding down the bike path working on your 6 minute wheelie skills and a seam in the shoulder comes undone. Defect. Warranty. Giddyup. Next time the mailman comes by to say hi to your Mom, hand it to him and voila, repaired or replaced.

Their sizing chart seems a bit ambiguous for their shirts and shorts- I have a 44" chest but am under their suggested height does that mean the hem and sleeves will be extra long on me?

Even then it's up to their discretion. While I agree this is somewhat normal it is misleading as the vast majority of them don't go all marketing used car salesman by saying it's a lifetime warranty. From their website: "This warranty does not cover damage caused by accident, improper care, improper installation, negligence, normal wear and tear, or the natural breakdown of colors and materials over extended time and use."

IDK: maybe Im asking too little of a warranty?
For me;
If I wreck and end up tearing or ripping gear, I dont think that's something that should be covered under lifetime warranty
If the stitching fails on a seam, its my expectation that the company should warranty it

In this instance, without knowing or going through their process, I assume its based of what PNW deems as the lifetime of the jacket/short/shirt and not your lifetime.....but agree their marketing of LIFETIME is misleading

In the course of a couple of years, normal wear and tear will result in the breakdown of materials, probably at the weakest points....as in seams. Now, the good thing is that, with a lifetime warranty, I wouldn't expect to get phone calls to "extend your warranty"!

I get that the hood on the jacket might be a deal breaker for someone who rides in areas where no hood is ever required. But I live & ride in the... wait for it... PNW and after owning a couple jackets with hoods that fit over my helmet, I'll never buy another jacket without such a hood. Our weather here is real deal and if you don't want to ride through the showers, well, you won't be riding your bike much.

It would be cool if the hood zipped off or something but personally I'd rather have it sewn on. Whenever I don't need it, it's behind me... can't see it, can't feel it -- don't even know it's there.

Good to know — thanks for replying with that info. Given my 36” inseam, I like them long. ‘Knicker length’ on most guys tends to be ‘shorts length’ on me.
I didn’t order any because PNW’s photos make the shorts look a little tight on the models. I’m not overweight (185# at 6’1”) but I‘m not ’hippy’ — I’ve always preferred shorts that have belt loops because throughout the past a belt has been the only thing that seems to keep my pants up. But PNW’s waist tensioning system appears as though it may be adequate for my needs.
I might reconsider buying a pair.
