So, I just got my bike back from the shop because they have to order a part for my bike (Shifter cable housing). It won't shift out of 1st gear... I can move the chain with my hand down to a higher gear...but then it goes right back to 1st...how can i stop the chain from shifting?

and,if i roll the bike backward it shifts to a higher gear...odd.

I assume you're talking about the rear? If so, put some slack in the line. It sounds like theres too much cable tension.

Or, maybe its all bent to hell, you should be a bit more descriptive about the problem.

Your LBS gave you your bike back and it doesn't shift? Take it back to the shop. They shouldn't send it home with you not working... that's what you pay them for.
